This is a monoprint that was created by using two different methods. I cut the center square out, and produced the inner image by covering the plate in black printing ink and removing the ink with tools to expose the design. I painted the outer image with oils that were diluted with turpentine so the image would be printable. The center was put back into place and the two plates were printed as one through a press. The overall effect reveals the color and loose quality of nature, (with the river flowing into the center), which turns into a receding, dark highway (a modern path of man-made concrete).

This work is a monoprint/intaglio print process that was produced on white paper. The blocks were actually abstractly cut, rolled with the different ink colors, and printed individually but in an order to form the one unified image. There is a combination of intaglio/relief (under the surface) printing, and textured blocks (which created a raised surface). The red shapes were dripped with glue, which set up after a number of days and allowed for an irregular pattern to be printed. The points within the large blue form were created with a nail and hammer. The surface that the image rests upon was printed from the backside (reversal of it’s usual use) of a linoleum plate, which was burlap. It helps to create an interesting additive texture, and “grounds” the circular design to the paper. It was printed in 2004.

This is a multiplate monoprint – multiplate because the first layer is from a collograph and the second layer is from an inked up glass slab; monoprint because it is a one off, never to be repeated art work.
