  • The majesty of this, the largest monolith on the planet is awesome. The markings all around it are written by Mother Nature’s hand and tells a story of Dream time.

I just took on a new artist at my online art gallery arts-fine.co.uk. The artist is Matthew Billington and he is a sculptor working in stone. His Stone Carvings have a spiritual almost mythical ancient prehistoric feeling. A sort of Easter Island or even pagan magic to them that celebrates nature, stone and the standing stone monoliths of our ancestors. / Please do take a look at his Carved Stone Scupltures

  • Monolithic Thought and Imagination Deficit
    by Lynda Lehmann

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dMHzWVqxszg/SUUqv7b-LlI/AAAAAAAABdo/8oEO_ZfUre0…

Origin of Mind – c 2005 Lynda Lehmann Ronald Isom wrote a post called The Primacy of Imagination on his blog Metrogadfly Documents, that piqued on one of my pet peeves. He describes people with rigid mindsets that will not allow for input or processing of new information, and certainly not for any level of rational debate. / I know a few people like that, whose picture of the world is so fixed as to allow not one iota of doubt to enter their minds, that their “picture” might be stilted. They are so busy defending their rigid snapshot of the world that wonder, creative impulse, empathy, and a feeling of connectedness are impossible for them. They are truly alienated from the universe, walled in by monolithic thought. / While I respect the feelings of such people and recognize that nature and nurture may have come together in such a way as to foster such traits in their personalities, their resistance often makes it difficult for other people within their spheres of influence, to express themselves! / What’s your opinion on this subject?

  • Extreme silhouette.

  • Shot in the Sahara desert Libya. After driving for an hour through nothing but sand, we came across this rocky outcrop! An obvious photo opportunity and a good excuse to stretch the legs! / Nikon D300, 24 to 120mm at 65mm, f/18, 1/100 sec, WB manual, ISO 100. / / . / / . /

  • A monolith to which has been added a sundial in the form of a water feature. Large and imposing. To be found in Winchester, capital of Wessex.

  • Minolta x-370

  • Found this amazing monolith while wandering around the summit area of Mt Stapylton, the Grampians. It is way bigger than it looks in this shot, and as you can see, defies gravity. Must return one day and get it under better light. Camera: Canon EOS 5D mkII / Lens: EF 24-70 f/2.8 USM @ 24mm / Filter: Circular polarizer / ISO: 100 / Shutter Speed: 1/6th sec / Aperture: f/22 / WB: Auto / Exposure Compensation: -1/3rd of a stop / Time: 8:53am on 27/9/09 / / For more Grampians shots check out my Grampians gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society

  • Elachbunting rock, what a well kept secret, 70 kilometres north of Mukinbudin, wheatbelt West Australia far bigger and brighter than Wave Rock in Hyden, fabulous place with a huge monolith rock, camping and bushwalking, a must want for any visiters up that way, ten out of ten from me. Camera Nikon D80

  • Elachbunting Rock , situated 70 kilometres north of Mukinbudin, in the heart of wheatbelt country in WA. See other for full description, what a wonderful place! Camera D80

  • Situated 70 kilometres north of Mukinbudin, wheatbelt WA a rock that surpasses Wave Rock in Hyden I feel. There is the wave and a fault break where you can walk under the fault through a cavern walkway to the other end, wildflowers, and free camping in a great reserve, well worth the visit. Camera D80 Did it sound like I was impressed?

  • The Capertee Valley, NSW Australia in the Blue Mountains, taken from Pearsons Lookout off the Castlereagh Highway, Capertee. The Capertee area is on the Great Dividing Range. A truly magical place. The Capertee Valley is the second largest canyon in the world, 1km wider than the Grand Canyon and longer. However, no where near as deep. It also has the largest bird population per square kilometer in the southern hemisphere and is the home of the endangered Regent Honeyeater. This panorama was taken at 7.34am on 14 December. Sony DSLR A200, 18-70mm lens at 26mm using a monopod. Five images were stitched together to achieve this panorama in Photoshop CS4. No colour altering or enhancing has been applied.
