One of the three standing stones that make up a triangle formation on Craigmaddie Muir (the other stones can be seen in the distance to the left of this one, approx 15 meters to the west). There is evidence of crude carvings and cup-marks on the monoliths, as well as on other stones in the immediate area. A few meters north of this site lies the remains on a chambered cairn. ‘Craigmaddie’ or ‘Craigmadden’ as it was formerly known, translates as ‘Rock of Prayer’ or ‘Rock of God’, and the area is littered with cairns, burial chambers, standing stones and carvings.

Stonehenge has been photographed countless times – not least by me. I like the clouds in this one which gives a good background
This calender is a showcase of the first twelve works in my “Accretions” series. Each of these works was drawn w/ ballpoint pen and painted in Photoshop CS3. There was no planning, rough drafts, or erasing for these pieces. Each drawing evolved spontaneously as new forms, feelings, words and ideas crept into my consciousness while I was working. These truly are accretions of my thoughts, but hopefully you can enjoy them too.

This digital image depicts the scene at a standing stone, set some 1500 years ago. It is now the Summer solstice and two of our Celtic ancestors are welcoming the morning with a fire dance. This is the start of a day of feasting and merriment for their community. This picture is inspired by and features one of my models, a standing stone with a Celtic cross carved into it. It is likely that in days gone by, a carved standing stone or monolith would have marked a community gathering place or important area. Uluru. On a recent trip there I learnt that the local indigenous tribe refers to the path that has been worn into the rock due to people climbing it as the ‘White Ant Trail”. Appropriate.
