Young Macaques taken care of each other in the hot springs near Shiga Kogen, Japan. These guys come down everyday from the mountains where they live to soak it up. A young Macaque sits and reflects on how good life is in these parts for a monkey. Soaking up the hot springs in the Shiga Kogen N.P. and just rolling around in the snow with his mates…yep, life is good…!!

Hi all, Have not long got back in from Holland, where we visited Apenheul primate centre. I have some amazing shots of the baby gorilla that I went over there to see on this visit, but while I was there, a baby Barbary Macaque was born. When I saw it, it was still moist after being cleaned up by Mum, and Dad was busy grooming Mum after all her effort. They were perched up on rocks above me, and I had no tripod, so had to go for the shot holding the camera by hand. As I was snapping away – Mum did this, and I was just completely blown away. The shot is edited, to sharpen it and improve the exposure, but the expression is 100% genuine and very real. I couldn’t beleive my luck :) Thanks for looking – I thought this one, although not the best shot technically – was well worth sharing, purely for the very special moment that it was.
