I was standing in the middle of the on coming wall of water, it might look small now but when it got to me – it was up to my thighs. / More photos from the shoot of Mona Vale Pool - Got up at 4 to get to the pool for these shots, travelling petrol: $10 / - A can of WD40 to water proof the camera: $4.95 / (to use this – Hahah…. you sprey it onto a piece of cloth the wipe you camera with it, avoiding the lens and viewfinder….not sprey directly onto the camera….so what ever to reply moisture is good. It also stop salt sprey clinging itself on the camera too.) / - Stand in front of an on coming wall of sea water (Being scare sh#tless): PRICELESS!
Thought I’d play around with a slightly more surreal shot. The red light is from an overhead sodium light that casts a funky orange/red light on the pool. Great storm clouds brewing in the East around sunrise. Mona Vale pool is one of my favorites around Sydney. Enjoy.
Leonardo Da Vinci was certainly a man ahead of his time. From The Last Supper, his wonderful statues and studies, his inventions and most famously The Mona Lisa are a testament of his genious. Its amazing that such a tiny painting(and heavily guarded) has left such an imprint on Society and the art world. While reading earlier the history on Da Vinci,i couldn’t help wondering if it will be remembered further into the Future…...You may notice the backdrop is similar ,with some unique additions.A flying ship(a design forerunner to the helicopter) is based on one of his designs which i tweaked for this, just for fun! / I had a lot of fun drawing this, the face keeping Mona’s serene look and most importantly the hands which i wanted to emulate and with a slight twist. She has a slight casual appearance too, note the leg up.I hope u enjoy my future take of Mona Lisa…1000 years in the making! / This is a combination of pen, pencil and Marker
BETTER VIEWED LARGER Mona Vale pool , on Sydneys northern beaches, one of the many coastal pools, here lit by the dawn of a new day. This shot was taken on a magical dawn, using Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200mm lens. No filters were used and the only post processing was to sharpen the image.
Taken in Brussels city centre in 1997, I sat opposite this lovely shopping arcade and hunkered down trying to be all Lee Friedlander and stuff, cutting and intersecting shoppers with the odd car crossing the zebra. When I spotted this kid crossing with her Mom I saw that the roof of the mall was going to sit just above her head, I thought I’ll snap her just as it fits her like a crown or a halo. I was too early. I still love this photo for her almost unreadable face, tranquil, bored, insistent, content? I’m not sure but the girl shopping with the unseen formidable presence of her mother is one of my favourite photos.
Went out this morning to shoot Mona Vale pool. It was a very high tide (1.7m). Braved the waves to get some interesting shots of the water crashing over the pool. Very little Photoshop on this image (just a few curves and levels), other than that, this was how it came off the camera.
Isnt it great when all the elements click ? This morning everything clicked

One of Nick Walker’s takes on La Gioconda (Mona Lisa). Very cheeky. Nick Walker is a street/gaffiti artist from Bristol and a comtempory of Banksy (or as some conspiracy theories will have you believe – he is Banksy).

For some time now I’ve been besotted by Mel Brackstone’s SS Dicky images. She generously shares much information about how she gets such remarkable images, like this for example / I finally bought some NDgrad filters and this and my next image are my first attempts to use them to capture the movement of the ocean, I have much to learn. Thanks for the inspiration and advice Mel. Canon 450D ISO100 F5.6 6/10s f18mm (Cokin 121s ND Grad)
