Shot of a woman dressed as la Catrina at a Dia de los Muertos procession. Dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico represents a mixture of Christian devotion and Pre-Hispanic traditions and beliefs. As a result of this mixture, the celebration comes to life as an unique Mexican tradition and celebration including an altar and offerings dedicated to those deceased. The altar includes four main elements of nature – earth, wind, water, and fire. The celebration occurs on the 1st and 2nd of November, in connection with the Catholic holy days of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Thanks for looking : ) Shot w/ a Canon 20D.

I cut off two whole branches (it’s a huge tree and it’s overwhelming and eating my other plants, so I don’t consider it cruelty otherwise I wouldn’t have done it… anyway…). Then I put them on my head. Before that did some make-up, was going for a kinda bumblebee theme, see the feelers near my eyebrows above my nose? Later after I was done taking several shots (psssst that’s my secret, I take like 30 pictures each time to get the perfect shot) I get into the shower, I’m washing the make-up off and the flowers are hanging on the showerhead (for some others shots comming soon) and I see I spider starting to hang from it’s web and an ant falls in the tub, and a stink bug is crawling on my window I freaked thinking, “OMG THOSE WERE ALL NEAR MY HEAD THE WHOLE 20 MINUTES!!” but then I laughed haha. I hope you enjoy this piece!

an earhart chappel photograph. earhart on photography. chappel on hair , make up, props, and wardrobe. a chappel edit (the hopeless romantic i hate to admit i am!) model ‘for her love at war’ is co. a vintage beauty who sends her love off to war overseas with a small photo of herself, in the apron he gave her.weathered some what form him keeping it close to his heart during battle. and peering at it when he wants to dream, that his life will continue, and her will go home to marry her. (the apron was a gift men would send home to their loved ones at home before being sent off this apron is a real vintage apron from wwII , given to me to shoot for this series from a wonderfully colorful vintage shop here in charlottesville virginia). yes this photo made me dream off a bit.In the past i have done research on wars (revolutionary in America mostly, as i am near many a battlefield where i live). and i have read many a letter home from men at war back to their loves ones. but the sadness remains as many never made it home, alive or dead, and at times were lucky to even be buried, never mind identified. / sorry i am a sucker when it comes to stories of lost loves…chappel
