"BE POSITIVE", THEY TELL ME
by JaneAParisDid someone break into your twinkies… / And take your ho hos
This is about political and sexual abuse. This is about being kept down on purpose, so that you can not have aspirations, achievements, or rewards. This is about being confined to the realm of the bedroom and being allowed nothing else in life. This is about feeling that no matter what you do, people are just lauging at you and your powerlessness.

CONFLICTED...
by JaneAParisthey play with your mind and drive away your sanity / they steal your soul…
This is about our need for others, and about mindgames. It is expessing the toll that mindgames take, especially when as human beings we need others. The mindgames really put us at their mercy, because we need others. Mindgames are cruel and confusing.

GOD'S REPRESENTATIVE...supposedly...
by JaneAParisMy body is a gift from God, not a room to be trashed by those here on earth; then in turn using God’s name as an excuse for violence, ha…
About how hateful abusive people use GOD to justify and do violence, destruction, cruelty and harm. Supposedly in the name of GOD. My body is a gift from God, not a room to be trashed by those here on earth…for political oppression using God as their excuse for destruction…The authorities hurt me when I had my baby, they lied about it and told me I deserved it. No one deserves to be tortured…period.

While it is a self portrait, this is really about how “colonialism” – that attempt to control a peoplehood through whatever means appears to be legitimate but in fact is a violation of human rights, does not disappear simply because we see ourselves as a more ‘enlightened’ contemporary civilization. / The power of co-ercion can be through humiliation, mockery and deliberate side-lining and often by and academic commentators (intelligensia) when they are faced with world views that challenge their own. / The “Star Wars” handcuffs points to this ‘benign’ colonialism as being part of the future human condition – unless we’re somehow given a new heart – as well as the present and past.

August 25 is monument and provocation seeking to built up another history, another memory of what happened when the levies broke in New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina made its way through the US Gulf Coast. The bust honoring George W. Bush is appropriated, modified, and repossessed in a ceremonial narrative to commemorate the event that happened under his administration. "Blackface" is make up that originated in the United States used in performances that executed racist stereotypes. Used primarily by whites, the blackface performances played a critical role gnerating images and racist attitudes that permeated popular culture. "The good news is – and it’s hard for some to see it now – that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. " / G.W. Bush, Sept. 5, 2005 "What I’m hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle) this is working very well for them." / Former First Lady Barbara Bush, on the hurricane evacuees at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 5, 2005 "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun? “ / House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-Texas), to three young hurricane evacuees from New Orleans at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 9, 2005 "I’d like to come back down here in about two years and walk your streets and see how vital this part of the world is going to be. " / G.W. Bush, Sept. 5, 2005 Additional images from the project: http://flickr.com/photos/daquellamanera/sets/72157602479889599
