  • Nikon D70 / Orton Baseball! Spring is here and with it the All-American Sport… BASEBALL! Growing up, I never understood or appreciated baseball. My dad would watch it on t.v. and I thought “Who in their right mind would ever want to watch such a long & boring game?”. That is, until I met my husband! My husband played ball and he was good! So soon, I was inducted into the world of baseball, and I have never been the same! Eventually, my husband, for various reasons, wasn’t able to play anymore but thankfully it wasn’t too much longer and our son was old enough to “Play Ball”! Now, I can appreciate the slap of the ball against the mitt, the crack of the bat hitting the ball, all the wonderful sounds and emotions that come with a good game of baseball! My husband and my son were both catchers. Now I appreciate the communication that goes on between a pitcher and the catcher, the wear and tear on the catcher as they block balls with their body, if they let one get by that could cost a point. The catcher is far more important than the typical person may think! Ever have the thrill of seeing a double play? Most fans have but how about a triple play? Now that is something to behold!!! I could go on and on but … I already have, so I better stop now. I need to go watch a good game of baseball!!!!

  • In Berlin Mitte (Germany)... The Fernsehturm (German for “television tower”) is a television tower in the city centre of Berlin, Germany. This well-known landmark, close to Alexanderplatz, was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). The GDR administration intended it as a symbol of Berlin, which it remains today, as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin. The original total height of the tower was 365 metres (1198 feet), but it rose to 368 m (1207 ft) after the installation of a new antenna in the 1990s. The Fernsehturm is the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe, after Moscow’s Ostankino Tower, the Kiev TV Tower and the Riga Radio and TV Tower. There is a visitor platform and a rotating restaurant in the middle of the sphere. The visitor platform is at a height of about 204 m (669 ft) above the ground and visibility can reach 42 km (26 miles) on a clear day. The restaurant, which rotates once every 30 minutes, is a few metres above the visitors platform (originally it turned once per hour; the speed was later doubled following the tower’s late 1990s renovation). Inside the shaft are two lifts that shuttle visitors up to the sphere of the tower within 40 seconds.
