except the constant, looping clicks and caws
of birds, lost in trees erased by white. /
My sight condensed
 by each fresh, foggy breath,
 a hanging depth
 my head sinks through.
 / Nothing here
 but mulching steps,
the soft snap of twigs long soaking,
 the sticky sound
of car tire on wet road. / I am drenched
by a sudden gang-up of water,
a brief yawn of thunder far away. /
There is nothing here
 and I am all wet*.”

  • A revamped image of Rowardennan Youth Hostel on Loch Lomond.

  • This image was shot at dawn. I waited on the lake in the dark in my kayak until the sun started to peer over the horizon and the mist I had been kayaking through became evident. The silence was golden. This is the picture I have in my head of that moment, a place I want to return to over and over again.

  • A light mist this morning supplied me with this serendipidous shot. Not what I’d planned, but I do like what I was given!!! Same building but different time of day, different angle, and different conditions to Slab Hut No 2 My Bubblesite also shows works in categories. • A misty morning blended with an image by Marcus Ranum in CS3. The lady’s forlorn demeanor and “all dressed up with nowhere to go” image made me think of Karen Carpenter’s song “Looking for Love…” / Though people say love is everywhere, / I’m looking for love, but it’s just not there For those interested, the background image was processed, the figure placed (which automatically gives a second layer) and blended using the opacity slider, “blend if” options in the blending mode, and erase tool. A shadow was produced with the burn tool, and light controlled on the figure with dodge, burn, and a white brush at about 5%. The blur tool was also used around any hard edges to help the figure blend into the b/g and not appear sharp and ‘dropped in’. Most of these actions were done on separate layers in order to be able to switch them on and off individually and ensure the correct effect was achieved. It also prevents ruining the whole image – if something doesn’t work, just delete that particular layer! • I took this shot on a walk in the southern end of the Peak District. This was from the start of the walk, we had been shrouded in mist throught the drive up there but as we pulled into the little village at the start of the walk the mist cleared revealing the blue skys above. As we descended down between the trees the mist retuned and remained a thick blanket around us for the rest of the 6 mile walk which took in Thors Cave. This version of the shot I converted to black and white using the Silver Effects plug in from Nik Software for Photoshop and I liked this a little more than the version I created in Nikon Capture NX.

  • Photo taken near Putzu Idu. Sardinia.

  • Early morning mist at Banton Loch, Kilsyth Tone-mapped single RAW file; texture overlay; Canon EOS 450D + 17-85mm zoom; Featured in RedBubble Featured Art and Photography on 3rd June 2009 Featured in the following group: / Collage and Landscape Photography

  • Derrymore & Ballymoyer Woodland / The 50 acres of parkland at Derrymore is an ideal stopping place on a drive between Belfast and Dublin. Together with Derrymore House, a romantic Irish cottage, it makes for a dreamy experience. The woods and great oaks are home to the rare Red Squirrel.

  • This oil painting was inspired by traveling in Portland, Oregon last Christmas during the worst white out in 40 years. The awesome quite and stillness of winter with it’s snow blanket drifitng in the breeze and the nightly shawdows on the water invites mystery and quiet contemplation.
