Some people asked me in email what the deal is with this image. The title is a play on words. The model’s features reminded me of the face on the statue of liberty, or “Miss America.” Title and treatment refer to the fact that I miss the health and reputation of my country before it was damaged by the neocons. The blood color of the cracks represents the senseless, destructive and demoralizing loss of life in the Bush administration’s ongoing misadventures abroad. Her eyes are cast down as if in defeat, but her expression is one of forbearance and I hope conveys the sense that she’s beaten, but it may be an unwise and premature notion to count her out.

An angel sits by the water’s edge and gazes toward a home she desperately misses. I suppose I could make this my second autobiographical piece after Foreign World. I may not be an angel, but I miss the town and house I grew up in. The sky is a photo of a fingerpainting I did yesterday (it was way too big to scan) and has only undergone slight colour alteration and slight blurring. Everything else is pure photoshop magic.
