When I was in my early 20’s I became involved in the Kustom Kulture movement. / Think James Dean and The Misfits, Rat Fink, Old Skool Tattoos, Lux Interior, 50’s style Pin Ups, Studded belts and Razor Blade earrings, Leopard Print and Fishnet Stockings…think Pin Stripes, Flames and Hot Rods….think me…;) / I have never owned a vehicle less than 40 years old. I have never had Air Conditioning in a car nor have I had Power Windows. I have always changed my own oil, changed my own tyres and generally done most of my own maintenance. Last year I sold my push bike…which was a customized Chopper. / I was a part of the Kustom Kulture movement. It has begun to end as I have gotten older and after the death of my boyfriend and long time partner 4 years ago…I have lost the desire for it I once had. I also feel with the rising cost of petrol….my car is becoming a commodity I can no longer afford to run. Here are some shots I took on the weekend…a peek at the ‘Kulture’ which has been part of my life for so long…..so Kool ;) Less is more… / Oh Mama! / Pontiac…this thing is gorgeous. / Pinstriping… / Flames / Mr Whippy / The Muzak / Whose your Daddy..Tailpipe / Women of Kulture are possibly the most Low Maintenance style of woman you will ever meet….nothing matters to us…but the size of your Donk. If you have one of these….you’re in! /

Something that I have known about myself all my life.

She crawled out of her hole one day by the old meadow. She was weird.. Everything she did was weird and we never could get her to talk…or even laugh. It was almost as if she wasn’t another kid at all. Or even a person. She would give me these weird items she must have considered significant or nice. But no one ever understood her and neither did I, She just held out cards, they were supposed to tell us our fortunes. She always collected strange things. Books, dead birds, and anything really. Then she just up and left. Even the huge hole she lived in, vanished. Some rights reserved. This work is licensed under a / Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 License.

This was a sketch I did whilst relaxing at Sihanoukville, Cambodia. It’s of the iconic ghoul emblem that punk band The Misfits commonly use. I scanned it from my journal and threw it into Photoshop. / The Misfits were the first real punk band to grab the sound coined by bands such as The Damned and make an adapted rock n roll horror-themed act from it. Their influence is crucial in the development of the New York punk scene that became one of the most formidable in the country.

This was taken just after about 4 other chimps decided to re—estrablish their social dominance. If you look closely you can see cuts on the arm. So sad, but I suppose it is the natural order. Thanks for looking.

Icons have instant impact. You see a swoosh you think NIKE. You see the word “swoosh” you think NIKE. You see the words “Misfits Skull” and think punk and everything that punk represents.
-
The icons of punk have been taken over. Made almost meaningless by being put everywhere. But what punk was and is still has meaning. Still has merit. You can rob the imagery of its impact but the very idea behind that image remains.

Words represent symbols. Symbols represent meaning. Even when the symbols lose some of their original authority we must never forget what they once stood for.
