Saltwater Creek Coal Mine ruins…T’was a miserable place back in the mid 1800’s. The bad ass prisoners were sent here to work underground in the cold, wet and filthy conditions. Only to look forward to a cold cell the size of a toilet at the end of the day. In fact, the mine was closed down when a Governess inspected the place and couldn’t believe the atrocious conditions these men lived under…..thanks for any views and comments..

In an effort to seek temporary oblivion from the unbearable pain and torment in her life, she seeks solace at the bottom of a bottle, and in a handful of pills. They cushion her fall to rock bottom, but she will have to bear the bruises tomorrow. Blessed relief from the voices in her head, and the ache in her heart… but only for a moment, a moment that will always be far too short. There is no pain, you are receding. / A distant ships smoke on the horizon. / You are only coming through in waves. / Your lips move but I cant hear what youre sayin. / When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse, / Out of the corner of my eye. / I turned to look but it was gone. / I cannot put my finger on it now. / The child is grown, the dream is gone. / I have become comfortably numb. Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb VERY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ! This is the fourth of my Sweet Misery Series. The images to follow are in no way indicative of my personal state of mind at present. I’m doing just hunky dory thankyou for caring =) This series has been inspired by the raw intense emotion of the My Chemical Romance song – I’m Not Okay and been fleshed out by feeling helplessly on the outside of the turmoil in the lives of some of my nearest and dearest recently. This series will be short, but not sweet. A definate departure from the norm for me, and my first attempt at storytelling through my work. You may very well hate it, but it is something I needed to get out of my system. The pretty stuff will be back soon ;)

A soft hand upon her face as a new day dawns, fresh… with no mistakes in it. In the eyes of her child she sees compassion, unconditional love and a willingness from him to lend her his strength when hers fails. No matter how alone we feel we are in our own thoughts, torment and pain, we only have to open our hearts and let the people who care about us in, drop all the pretence and allow them to care and help. There is always hope. This has been a very confronting journey for me personally. Like most women I am possessed of a healthy dose of vanity and the thought of presenting myself devoid of the smoke and mirrors I usually employ in my self portraits scared me shitless to be perfectly honest. So your response to this series has touched me so incredibly deeply that I just cannot thankyou all enough. For those who were brave enough to come with me on this journey, and for all those who left your amazing comments and gave your support via bmail, you have my heartfelt thanks. This is the final image in my Sweet Misery Series.

The Bob Mantis is an awful beast. It selects its victims, much like a female mantis choosing a partner. It promises a life of bliss, freedom and prosperity, then promptly chomps off the head of its new mate. The screams of the victims go unanswered by the world, which answers. “Yes, it is horrible, but that’s nature, what can you do?”

Nobody knows what thoughts go through anothers mind unless they choose to share them. Even then you are likely to get the censored, prettied-up-for-the-public version, a semblance of the truth perhaps with a shade of what lies beneath. Behind this porcelain facade is a mind in turmoil… already halfway down the slippery slope of despair and almost beyond the point of no return. And you never even knew did you? I was mailing a letter and saw this coupon about TEA LOVES COMPANY at a local cafe. I kind of saw it as a Photo Op…would make a nice greeting card. I think the line is “Misery Loves Company”...but sometimes we need someone to share tea with to discuss our misery (or hopeful happiness). LOL :)

She is reaching trying to help, she’s been trying so long it hurts. She didn’t see him buy the rope, tie the rope, drop willingly to dangle from the rope. He is happy in his misery he doesn’t need or see her help.

I came across these bricks on the floor of a church in Lincolnshire, which had obviously been used as part of a Sunday school lesson for the children of the parish. I could practically hear the lesson and imagine the faces of the small children being taught that these were the building blocks that we all use to build our own personal prisons from… The building blocks of human misery! The bricks we all use to construct a prison for our minds. I guess we probably all sat and listened to similar lessons when we were young, no matter what your faith, religion or ethnic origin might be… but sometimes I wonder if we really learned those lessons! I don’t think so!

To appreciate fully, see extra large view here Storm clouds, which I saw as symbolic of the misery caused by drug addiction, hang over this poppy crop in Tasmania. The atmosphere here at the time, due to fading light and drizzle was totally miserable. The fences around these crops carry government warnings of the legal implications for theft and mis-use of the crop. In Tasmania, the crop is grown for the production of morphine, codeine and thebaine. These alkaloids are extracted from the poppy straw and used in the manufacture of pain killing drugs and in cough mixtures. The seed of the morphine plant can also be used in cooking and the Tasmanian variety can be recognised by its distinctive blue-grey colour. Seed from thebaine-enhanced poppies is not sold for culinary purposes. Link Canon 40D 18-55 IS
