  • Taken at Port Arthur, an old convict settlement in Tasmania, just as the sun was disappearing.

  • Taken at the Summer Palace in Beijing. More travel shots like this in: / My Adventures /

  • Found this lurking in a hard drive. Taken from the Eureka tower last year just before they banned cameras in ‘The Edge’ – a glass ‘box’ that extends out from the top floor and hangs over the city 92 floors below. This image was taken through the floor of ‘The Edge’. I adjusted the levels aggressively and burned the reflections of the people to make them stand out more. /

  • Taken late in the afternoon on rottnest Island, Western Australia. Cross-processed using RGB curves adjustment with a TTV blend layer.

  • I have always wanted to have a go at ‘painting with light’. So blacked out the spare room and bought a bunch of tulips. The flowers are lit with a small torch waved over them for 81 seconds and the shutter set to ‘bulb’. Except for the 50% texture overlay (I thought the wardrobe doors were a bit boring) it is exactly as shot. /

  • My photos, added texture background and TTV overlays.

  • Playing around with long exposure and painting with light. Exposure time – 25 seconds. A lot of fun – then I ate the subject matter!!!

  • This is living proof that it is still possible to get a half-decent shot last thing at night after an extensive drinking session! This is the stunningly beautiful little bar Eszeweria in the Kazimierz district of Krakow, Poland. Featured in the Dimensions Group Taken with Ricoh GX100 Another shot from this bar can be seen here:

  • St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney. Split toning filter applied.

  • Some rust detail on panelling of a haybarn in Slovenia. I love the rich colours and detail in this – beauty can be found in the most humble places.

  • Something a little different…

  • An impressionist take on the bluebell wood at Strumpshaw, Norfolk (1/4 second exposure while moving the camera) Another one taken in the same shoot…

  • A half-dead bunch of ranunculi backlit with window light. A couple of textures layers added. / Nikon D300 with 80-200 mm lens

  • The new ring road bypassing Geelong has these wonderfully coloured panels set in the barriers along its length. When you are driving along the sun casts magical strips of colour across the road. This was taken just before sunset. As shot with some levels adjustment and a slight cross-processing to bring out the contrast in the sky. / Nikon D300 with 18-200 mm lens.

  • Inspired title eh?, given that it is a fence, and it is predominantly blue ;)

  • Taken in Dali, China. Cross-processed using RGB curves adjustment. Added TTV layer. / Nikon D300 with 18-200 mm lens.

  • The Chuck Taylor All-Star Tennis Shoe was introduced in 1917 and changed the face of sports footwear for generations. They are still popular today and remain relatively unchanged although their country of production is different. These are a pair of my old beat up “Chucks” that just beckoned to be painted. I was going to up the values of the shoes a touch in this composition but I kind of liked the subtle glow that was achieved by keeping the shoes lighter so I left it in its current state. The piece is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The Rublev paint adds nice texture when repeatedly glazed. The original is 14” x 10” in size. Featured in Painters in Modern Times group in August 2009. /

  • This is a compilation of two photographs plus a couple of texture layers. The figure is a life-size sculpture from the National Gallery of Victoria titled “The Connoisseur II” by Peter Corlett. The bathroom is mine. I have used the photo of the sculpture with the permission of the artist Peter Corlett. I have always liked this art work and often wondered about the title – what was he evaluating as a ‘connoisseur’? I have no idea what the artist Peter Corlett intended when he conceived of this work but here’s my interpretation….. A connoisseur is an ‘expert judge in matters of taste’ and I think that this ‘connoisseur’ is viewing his image, as it progresses towards middle-age, with wistful contemplation, some puzzlement but with acceptance and without judgement.

  • Just playing with lighting. / Nikon D300 with 18 – 200 mm lens

  • A sand dune at Holkham Beach, North Norfolk.

  • Titled so as it was uploaded on the stroke of midnight :) Featured in the Mood And Ambience Group

  • The photograph is as shot at Grovedale Airport near Geelong. The sky was very dark and menacing with an approaching storm. I decided to hit it hard with the tone-mapping filter for lots of HDR and add a bit of lightning for extra drama. Just having a bit of fun!!! / Nikon D700 with 24-70 mm lens.
