Temperature was -5c degrees when we venture out to try our luck with snowmaking machine in the area called “Friday Flats” – the beginner slope of Thredbo Resort. Snowmaking and Grooming / Thredbo is the benchmark for snowmaking and grooming in Australia. The already mega snowmaking system that covers 25% of the trails has had another $2 million makeover in the summer and is now fully automated. What does this mean to snow riders? In the 2006 season 42% more snow was made than the previous year, this coming winter the mountain crew expects to produce an extra 30% again. More trails will be covered by the automated system. So better quality, greater coverage and more areas covered. Combine this with a state of the art grooming fleet to smooth the trails (including winch cats to smooth the steep), you know you will always have the best possible snow riding conditions. The "corduroy" surface left behind after a touch up from this mountain crew will make your boards sing!

A very cold winter keeps most people inside, temp was minus 35 degrees C. This photo was taken on “Little Christmas” the town was almost deserted as we walked around. This part of the old wooden town is all that was left standing after a massive fire in the early 1900’s, the part which was raised was rebuilt in brick and stone.

Yesterday minus one

I feel a frantic scurry to ‘do it now’, but what ‘it’ is, I still don’t know. I know that every passing day is one more lost in my life, one closer to my death. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling the panic, when nothing all that interesting is happening in my life, and it seems it’s been that way for far too long. In retrospect, so much has happened. Why do I find it so difficult to enjoy the moment I’m in? When it comes down to it, I can think of many blessing in my life, but my days are still clouded with what seem to be the curses. I know it will end, and the happy days will be here, it’s just a waiting game. At times like this, there seems to be nothing I can do to speed the process. Just wait. Let go.

Power plugs are male electrical connectors that fit into female electrical sockets. They have contacts that are pins or blades that connect mechanically and electrically to holes or slots in the socket. Plugs usually have a live or hot contact, a neutral contact, and an optional earth or Ground contact. Many plugs make no distinction between the live and neutral contacts, and in some cases they have two live contacts. The contacts may be brass, tin or nickel plated. Power sockets are female electrical connectors that have slots or holes which accept the pins or blades of power plugs inserted into them and deliver electricity to the plugs. Sockets are usually designed to reject any plug which is not built to the same electrical standard. Some sockets have one or more holes that connect to pins on the plug. (wikipedia.org)

Firstly Uber props to: nofrillsart sjem and Scott Robinson for the awesome Black on Black work that inspired me to experiment with this as well. Just a fun version of B -A / a design I did a while ago. Works well with all colours but first and foremost is a Black on Black. All I wish now is for this to Glow in the Dark! and I’ll be happy! Enjoy!

T minus 26 days and counting: Shootout film festival

The Shoot Out 24 hour film making festival is being held in Geelong on September 21st-23rd. This is not an ad for the event. This is just a record of my involvement. The basic rules are: / - you have to shoot a short film, start to finish, in 24 hours, / - you can only use in-camera editing. No memory cards can be used, so all scenes must be shot in sequence. / - you must incorporate 5 of 15 specified items/landmarks. The list of items is not provided until Friday night. / - it can be no longer than 7 minutes. / If / Myself and a work colleague will be submitting an entry. We have reworked a short story I wrote into a short film, and are planning and preparing as much as we possibly can in advance. His experience is that has been involved in amateur film/documentary making for several years “on the side”. I have no filmmaking experience whatsoever. More details to come. As of today, the script is not yet complete, we have vague ideas about the actors, but have pretty much selected and agreed on primary locations. If all goes well I’ll post a link to a youtube version of the finished product, about a month from now.

Shootout: T minus 24 days and counting

making a short film is hard work, and it feels like we haven’t done anything yet. since my last entry“ We’ve been pretty busy just doing preliminary things. This is a rough overview of what we’ve done so far. Friday – decide that this year we’ll actually make a short film. There’s two of us – me and Jeewai. We’ve already got a story that I wrote earlier in the year that Jeewai thought would make a good short film. Jeewai has converted most of it into a script some months earlier. Saturday – We meet at the train station to sus out some of our shots. Saturday night – Since we’ll be filming at night, Jeewai takes his camera down to a few locations we’ll most likely be filming from. The plan is to film in B&W because we’re going for a film noir effect. Jeewai does some tests in both colour and B&W and posts them on youtube. The quality is depressing. The colour is better but not as good as we’d hoped in low light. Panasonic NV-DS25 B&W / Panasonic NV-DS25 Colour Sunday – Jeewai and i are back and forthing on facebook all day, decide to abandon the B&W idea so we if we’re forced into colour we might as well try out his good camera – Panasonic GS250, which has three different chips to pick up red, green and blue light. We go down and do this sunday night, and find a well-lit location at Waterfront too. Panasonic GS250 (That’s Shootout Boy in the hoodie) We also work out that the script is the holdup to us planning the next stage (storyboarding, planning actors, props etc). Shootout Boy promises to tidy up the script and finish it off. Jeewai secures a sound guy, and has preliminary talks with an actor, both people he knows from film school. Monday: We get an artisty guy at work to agree to help us with storyboarding, and an amateur actor guy to agree to one of the parts, and another go to help with scenes/props. The artistic director, i guess you’d say. We’re looking for serious people who won’t treat it as just a muck-around thing. The three people who’ve agree to help want to see the script. I failed to finish it as promised, so I do it after work, and send it off to Jeewai, who’s gonna be in Warrnambool working for a couple of days. I also send Storyboard Guy, Mr Props and Actor 1 the short story. Also, Jeewai does some sweet talking to secure us use of a real train carriage, which will be using the interior as a location. Tuesday: The three people we’ve asked to help so far are really enthusiastic. Other’s at work are getting wind of it and hinting they want to be a part of it, but we’ll be up all night and don’t want flaky people. I do a follow-up call with train people to arrange a viewing. We’ll be there at about 3am so we’re going to have to work out an access plan. Next steps: fine-tune script, storyboarding,
