This one is slightly different but it is very special to me. I caught this shot of my brother, Ken, who was 2 years older than I am, as the sun was going down; I think he may have been watching a Buzzard over the cliffs of Portreath in Cornwall. I don’t have many photos of him but this one, which I have made part painting which is rubbish I know, who paints a sun like that? Well I found it hard to paint with the computer mouse. I forced the grain in the shot to look a bit like a canvas painting. But anyway, this one I like as it sums him up as a person. He loved nature, bird & animal watching, painting, craft making, photography, flowers, plants, gardening, and the outdoor life. He was in his element when he managed to get a job on a huge estate in Cornwall to help look after the grounds. This is where he died 5 years ago lying on the ground in a place he loved so much with the sun on his face and the animals and birds around him. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to go on. So, this is for Ken, my dear big brother with love from me, I miss you my friend. The shot was taken on my Canon AE1 35mm camera about 20 odd years ago and scanned into the computer. Shot with a 35mm film with subsequent print scanned into Photoshop for a rigorous “enhancement” effort (fun and beneficial) due to such a rare capture. Clean-up was mandated. Shadow detail and full ranges of gray tones also were Photoshop candidates in retaining good contrast.

He had a firm grounding in the classics before he began to play jazz. / During a murky encounter with Philadelphia police in 1945, Powell was beaten repeatedly over the head. His injuries seem to have intensified his mental problems. He spent time in and out of institutions. He sometimes stopped playing for minutes at a time to stare into the audience. / He died at forty-two…. Bud Powell Trio All the things You are

This Lanner Falcon getting a little wet in a summer shower…....... (-: The Lanner Falcon is a native of all of Africa and the southern parts of Italy, Sicily, Greece and Asia Minor. / It is essentially a bird of mountainous terrain except in Africa, where it can also be found in savannahs, plains and deserts. The Lanner Falcon is a fast-flying bird and is well designed for catching birds up to the size of a Guinea Fowl, and bats, especially the larger fruit bats. / When prey of this kind is scarce, ground living mammals and lizards are taken. It will also gorge on locusts and flying termites when they are swarming. The Lanner Falcon has a shrill, piercing, almost screaming voice, similar in content to that of the Peregerine Falcon, but somewhat higher pitched. Much, but not all of the Lanner Falcon’s prey is taken in the air, when the falcon descends to its prey and binds to it with a smack which can be heard some way off. It then carries it off. / Occasionally it will strike its prey in the air and allow it to drop to the ground, collecting it there, but this is less frequent behaviour. / When defending its nesting territory, it will often stoop with tremendous force at an animal it cannot hope to kill, which seems to be, nonetheless, an effective deterrent.
Taken in St Grade Church, Ruan Minor, on the Lizard Peninsular in Cornwall, that was built in the 14c. / The sunlight was streaming through one of the stained glass windows, and left this colourful reflection on the floor, and a lovely colourful glow around the inside of the window. / This was the first time we have visited the church in all the years we have holidayed in the area. / We will certainly be visiting the church again this year. I hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens.

Just a fun piece about being a kid with a monster for your best friend, looking forward to the obstacles that await. When you’re young, the world will tell you that you dream too big. That sort of pessimistic lie is just a minor setback.
