I’ve been doing quite a bit of writing today for my various journals and blogs so pretty soon I’m bound to write something prolific. Any minute now… Wait for it… It’s coming, I can feel it, seeping from my brain…oozing down my arms to my finger tips where it will be splattered across your screen with each consecutive key press. Gaaaanuughhhhhtharrrrr…....oops, no, that wasn’t it. Wait. Maybe it was? Primeval, guttural, minimal. Minimalist writing. Very prolific. How was it for you? I know in that moment I captured everything I wanted to express. I feel like a weight has lifted from my shoulders. Such a relief to unleash such a heavy burden from my mind. Be sure to tell your friends. I’m sure it will be life altering for them. /

Less is More (minimalism) Group I have finally killed two birds with one stone .....that is written a journal entry and also set up a group (yippiee). Groups was a feature I felt RedBubble needed. A cool way to group similar work together from various artists. When it finally did arrive I had no time to set one up until now. I can not wait to see the minimalist art that fellow Red bubble artists will add to this group. I also encourage interaction by all available means, so this group can be both a showcase of minimalist art as well as a place where people can discuss various topics regarding this genre. Some simple standard guidelines: / # One upload a day only. / # Don’t critique an art piece unless explicitly stated by the artist that they want critique. / # Any questions/suggestions, Bubblemail me (I love getting Bubblemail). / / Cheers and have fun, Mike

This is what I saw during the new Bakewell Underpass Presentation. Amongst the dignified speakers and observant public, I shot scenes and moments just a little detached from the place, but still in the moment. ... When Mr Rann was shaking hands with Mr WhoKnowsWho, I was saying hello to the remaining members of the entertainment ( Little Brown Hat ). / ... Whilst other photographers managed to get politicians and councilors to smile, I captured moments where these same people were lost in thought. But these were the only two that seemed appropriate for the day and befitting of my gallery. I hope you like them. Awe / A cyclist … stares up at the new overhead railway bridge. / Public Servant / During the public opening … a clown and mime entertained the crowds. The mime assisted people, both young and old, with a rainbow-umbrella. /

Today, Dan at EmptyEasel chose me as this week’s featured artist. He wrote a very perceptive review of my Ikebana Art. What pleases me most is that Dan didn’t know a thing about Ikebana prior to seeing my work. He is a very knowledgeable art critic and that is exactly how he approached my work. He looked without any pre-conceptions. He has made some very insightful remarks which I hope will help people here on Redbubble and the art buying public to appreciate the Art of Ikebana. This is my homage to the late Sofu Teshigahara, the founder of the Sogetsu School and modern Ikebana. Here’s the link to the EmptyEasel review: Baiko’s Ikebana Art

I’ve been watching a redbubbler called Zaldy Infante for some time, and am totally impressed with a number of short (tiny?) writings posted. Check them out. I am inspired to add a small (tiny) number of my own. There is no better gift that one can give another than that of inspiration. So I thank Zaldy Infante so much for inspiring me to contribute just a few of my own. Some serious, some funny, some thought-provoking, some thought-destroying. Minimalisms 1. hey to all of my sydney bubblers please join the new sydney exhibition group u’ll find it in my groups or just read the title of this journal, it is also for the people in the blue mountains ,newcastle, wollongong and the central coast, it will inform you about what is going on art wise in all types of artistic media get you word out about what’s happening with you or someone you know. / wouldn’t it be great to have a tonne of bubblers just rock up at your show- it happens and it is a fantastic feeling. / as one person doing a show it is hard when you can’t get your word out to other artists but as a group the word can just spread with unlimited possibilities. / steve

  • The Truthbary
    by John Douglas

“I wasn’t in bad way…but I was in a bad way mentally.” / Chad Witt / The Truthbary Chad Witt (1971 – 2000) was an American gay artist, fascinated by minimalism, detail and the mundane. He had synesthesia and bi-polar disorder. While suffering a particularly savage bout of depression he took his own life in September 2000. We e-met in 1996, and for the next four years maintained an intense internet friendship – discussing art; collaborating on projects and sending each other tapes talking on a range of topics. Chad would often take images I had sent and ‘treat’ them. In early 2000 I was thrilled to curate a Sydney showing of Chad’s conceptual sculpture Darlo Homo, Chad’s first exhibit in Australia and the last public showing of Chad’s art while alive. The Truthbary documents some of the images and poetry Chad Witt created during our four-year friendship, many of the images are from Chad’s ‘treated’ versions of original photography of mine. Chad’s own voice narrates snippets about himself, and one of his musical compositions provides the soundtrack. The film is in a minimalist style in keeping with Chad’s own tastes. Three of Chad’s images in the film have been further ‘treated’ by me, making The Truthbary our final collaboration. It was screened at the Sydney Squatfest Film Festival in 2008. The Truthbary is intended as a companion piece to minimal chad Redbubble Chad
