  • Marathon Key, Florida USA LARGE VIEW is much better! A Sunset; by request! The Seven-Mile Bridge is located at mile markers 40-47 in the Florida Keys. Although this isn’t a traditional attraction, it’s the only way you’re going to get to Key West, and it’s also one of the wonders of Florida! While it falls a bit short of seven miles, this amazing span bridges the Middle and Lower Keys and has nearly 40 expansion joints. As you cross, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, you can see the Old Seven Mile Bridge, now on the National Register of Historic Places. This was shot at the WEST end. / ____ / / / _______ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. Let firm, well hammer’d soles protect thy feet / Through freezing snows, and rains, and soaking sleet; / Should the big last extend the shoe too wide, / Each stone will wrench the unwary step aside; / The sudden turn may stretch the swelling vein, / The cracking joint unhinge, or ankle sprain; / And when too short the modish shoes are worn, / You’ll judge the seasons by your shooting corn. / —John Gay / / ..................................... / Click here to add me to your watch list. / .....................................

  • Marathon, Florida USA LARGE view; Please! Driving home the other day down US1 – Overseas Highway – I looked out and seen this and saw an image. I pulled over enjoying the last few seconds of the sunset – however – it was this lighting I was seeking! That great light immediately after sunset or before it rises – dawn or dusk light! I name this piece as I did because around here – as there is ONLY ONE ROAD – ONE WAY IN – ONE WAY OUT – we all refer to where a place is located according to its ‘mile marker’ on the map along Oversea Highway. It tends to really help the tourist as well. I have always thought it to be a very cool way of letting someone know literally exactly where something is. One would ask a local: ‘Where is the grocery store’? A local would say ‘Go North and you’ll find it between Mile Marker 90 – 92! Welcome to the Keys! / _____ / / / _______ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • Key West, Florida USA I stand beside what is claimed to be the ‘southern most point of the Continental United States’. NOT TRUE! Key West is an island – therefore NOT part of the Continental US. Furthermore, even if not for this fact… Hawaii is further south still than Key West. However – just as the Keys – Hawaii too is made up of islands – therefore NOT a part of the Continental USA. Also – the marker reads ‘90 miles to Cuba’ NOT TRUE! It is actually 98 miles from the mile marker to Cuba. Lies! All Lies! Everything on this landmark is UNTRUE. Everything… check it out for yourself! I did! Key West – ‘Home of the Sunset’ – I also beg to differ here as well – see my portfolio. That would be left to opinion as I find the most Kick Ass sunsets right here in my back yard! Dont believe ANYTHING you hear and only believe in HALF of what you see and you will be much happier! / ___ / / / _______ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • This art pairs together two icons of terrace culture. The CP Mille Miglia jacket designed by Massimo Osti as used in the famous 1000 mile car race of 1927 and the Deerstalker hat.

  • Mike’s latest kick: skele-people in everyday situations. Done mostly in pencil with the exception of the background, which was rendered in Photoshop.

  • Achnacarry is a small hamlet, private estate, and a castle in the Lochaber region of Highland, Scotland, about 15 miles north of the town of Fort William near the village of Spean Bridge. The present castle is a Scottish Baronial style home dating from 1802, although the Chiefs of the Cameron Clan have maintained homes at Achnacarry since 1665. The castle itself is not open to the public, although the Clan Cameron Museum, located on the grounds, welcomes visitors. The name Achnacarry is derived from Scottish Gaelic field (achadh) of the (na) fish-trap/weir (caraidh). The Achnacarry lands lie on an isthmus between Loch Lochy to the east, and Loch Arkaig to the west. “As you approach Achnacarry, which lies rather low, but is surrounded by very fine trees, the luxuriance of the tangled woods, surmounted by rugged hills, becomes finer and finer till you come to Loch Arkaig, a little over half a mile from the house. This is a very lovely loch, reminding one of Loch Katrine, especially where there is a little pier, from which we embarked on board a very small but nice screw steamer which belongs to Cameron of Lochiel.”—Royal Visit to Achnacarry, from the Journal of Queen Victoria, Friday, September 12, 1873. Achnacarry is the ancestral home of Lochiel, the Chief of Clan Cameron. In addition to the private family lands, the Clan Cameron Museum is located at Achnacarry about a quarter-mile from the castle. In August 2001, Achnacarry served as the site of the International Gathering of Clan Cameron, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Colonel Sir Donald Hamish Cameron of Lochiel, K.T., XXVI Chief of Clan Cameron. It will also host the 2009 (summer) International Gatheringof Clan Cameron.

  • Dusk - Freshwater Lake
    by Travis Easton

    US$3.80–US$101.33

At the southern end of Five Mile Beach in the Northern Wilderness area of Wilsons Promontory is a seldom visited gem called Freshwater Lake. The Lake is formed at the bottom end of a huge swamp created from the runoff of the Roundback and Vereker Ranges. To get here I had just spent seven hours traversing around the rocky coastal fringe of the Cathedral. I was exhausted and so focused on cooking my dinner at the time that I almost missed this sight. Fortunately I did look behind me and was staggered at the colour of the sky which, minutes before, had been so grey and bland. Immediately I envisioned catching the sky in the still lake which was close by. Upon reaching the lake so taken aback was I from the reflection and the perfect touch of ducks sitting in the middle of it that I audibly sighed disturbing the ducks and ruining the reflection. Fortunately the water stilled again before the light was gone but alas no ducks. For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery. To read a story about the trip on which I took this shot see my Tour de Prom article. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society

To explain the caption. I spied these two small snails on a leaf a foot or so off the ground. I guess they are mating. Their courtship appeared to be painfully slow, and after fifteen minutes of inaction, I decided to leave them to it, so I didn’t wait to catch it being consummated. / A foot off the ground for these little critters, given their means of locomotion, is a fair distance, hence the title (thanks Bev). / Photographed at Wingham Brush.
