  • If you only judge the spread by the eruption of fluff you’ll underestimate the extent of the disease. A carpet of spores coat the surface, and fungal threads wind their way through the flesh of the plant, forcing their way through. Fortunately for a guy with a macro lens, there is a glasshouse at work that is crawling with pestilence due to the sloppy way it’s being looked after. If you look closely you can see the stomates in the leaf and the fungal threads twining over the green leaf surface.

  • Photographed at the lovely, faded old Anglican Chapel in the centre of the cemetery. The building is in a slight state of disrepair, yielding hundreds of superb abstract opportunities. This particular image reminds me of a Google Earth view of Botswana’s desert. If you like this abstract, please also have a look at Lightning Canon 10D / 1/80th sec at f8.0 / 35-135mm lens at 70mm / ISO 100 / Minor adjustments to contrast and saturation in Lightroom

  • I nearly titled this “Mental Mildew,” because of the state of mind I’m in. But it’s too pretty and looks too much like gold (or something else nicer than mildew) to be stuck with a name like that. Maybe next time. Base image is one of the scanned images described here, with painting, editing and an additional layer added from the same group (for texture). Photoshop Elements 3. /

  • I saw this water pump at Denney Abbey, Cambridgeshire. It was standing against a wall and looked a bit out of place. / Taken with Nikon D60, Tamron 70-300mm, f 4.0, ISO 200
