Mr. Migraine / Copyright© 2005 Karl R. Denton Woke up about 2:00am with a pounding in my head, / Woke up about 2:00am with the walls spinning round my bed. / Had a flashback to the days of Gizmo, / And thought I was looking through a goofy colored prizmo. / Turns out it was my old friend Mr. Migraine, / Back again to make me go insane with that never-ending brain pain. Oh God… Another morning waking up with that pounding in my head, / When I was younger sometimes wished I was dead, / Migraines are a real drag, Mr. Migraine I need to get out of bed, / Mr. Migraine get the hell out of my head! I left for work on a bright sonny day, / The kind that makes you think of a roll in the hay. / All the cheer was just a fake how-do-you-do, / I can barely stand the light because it feels like some sort of evil Voodoo. / As long as my old friend Mr. Migraine is here the sun glasses will never come off, / People look at me like as if I’m crazy and when I look back they are all a bit hazy. / As long as Mr. Migraine is here the sun glasses will never come off. Oh God… Another morning waking up with that pounding in my head, / When I was younger sometimes wished I was dead, / Migraines are a real drag, Mr. Migraine I need to get out of bed, / Mr. Migraine get the hell out of my head! Floating high on a prescription buzz, / I’ve got one so bad my tongue feels like fuzz. / On the way home MR. Migraine seems to be taking a break, / I hate that Mr. Migraine makes me act so fake. / He’s playing his nasty old tricks on me, / Because when the glasses come off all I can see, / Is a swirling mess of colors. / This dammed thing is going to get the best of me, / Mr. Migraine please set me free! Oh God… Another morning waking up with that pounding in my head, / When I was younger sometimes wished I was dead, / Migraines are a real drag, Mr. Migraine I need to get out of bed, / Mr. Migraine get the hell out of my head! Getting home my family thinks I’m cranky, / Mr. Migraine and I have been through a long day, / I wish I could remember what I wanted to say, / But Mr. Migraine has taken my thoughts along the way. / Confusion, pain and anger have gotten to close to me, / Mr. Migraine is making me insane. / It hurts to here her say “take a chill pill” because I’m already there, / And my old friend Mr. Migraine has me weaker still… Oh God… Another morning waking up with that pounding in my head, / When I was younger sometimes wished I was dead, / Migraines are a real drag, Mr. Migraine I need to get out of bed, / Mr. Migraine get the hell out of my head! One thing is for certain Mr. Migraine you will never win, / Because giving into you would be a mortal sin. / When the fog clears and the glasses come off, / I can say, I made it through and although I don’t / Remember everything today, / I will wake another day to say… / Migraines are a real drag, / Mr. Migraine I need to get of bed, / Mr. Migraine get the hell out of my head!

Feeling better this evening, now that the sun is gone down, ;O)))))
Pastel on paper (Canson) 35cm x 50cm I am a migraine sufferer! I first started getting migraine when I was 13 years old. It is so much more than a headache, and if you are a sufferer too you will know what I’m talking about! The screwdriver illustrates the searing, throbbing, pain that is concentrated on the side of my head and behind my eye. If I was looking at my face in a mirror I would only be able to see a quarter of my whole face. The needles in my hand signify the numbness which I get in my hand, arm and sometimes my leg. The lettering signifies the vision disturbance which lasts for about an hour before I get the headache, and the confusion I feel when trying to concentrate on words (I sometimes say things backwards during an attack and call things by their incorrect names) and finally there are the bright flashing lights. she was sitting in a bustling shopping alley in Shanghai, and I couldn’t determine if this was a passing problem or a more fundamental problem with her lot in China life.
One of me from the Gold Medal dinner at the Scarab Club.
Bill is the person who got me to join the Scarab Club and he continues to be a teacher and mentor to me in the world of oils. He is this years Gold Medal winner and with very good reason. See the links page at: www.scarabclub.org to visit his site, most impressive. I look to him for guidance and would not be anywhere close to where I am in my artistic career if it were not for Bill.
Having a daughter who wants to follow in your foots steps with regard to art had the wisdom to talk and get to know some of the truly great artists that were at the party last night. I am proud of her for many, many things. Being Bill is such a mentor to me I wanted to have one shot of Shelby with this truly great 21st century painter.

Acrylic and watercolor…..a joyful painting when done under internal pressure,
Mine, anyway. / Every once in a while I do visual presentations of migraines. I did this one in Corel Painter Essentials 2, keeping one eye shut because if I open it I’ll get dizzy. The bright spot is in the middle (where “suns” aren’t supposed to be) because that’s how migraines are. Front and center and in the wrong places at the wrong times. The image is here on Robbegami because it’s fierce searing unrelenting pain as art. I probably won’t want to look at it tomorrow when the heachache is gone. I hope.
