Space Invaders is an arcade video game designed by Tomohiro Nishikado in 1978. It was originally manufactured by Taito and licensed for production in the U.S. by the Midway division of Bally. Initially released in its native Japan in 1978, it ranks as one of the most influential video games ever created. Though simplistic by today’s standards, it was one of the forerunners of modern video gaming.

Two Ferris Wheels turning on a mid summer’s night; from a series: Sunset on the Small Town Carnival. Owing to the rise of mega-parks and high liability insurance, small town carnivals are rapidly disappearing. Whenever possible i try to document this vanishing aspect of the Twentieth Century American landscape. The original image was shot at 1/15th with a camera flash and 2 remote strobes. The long exposure shows motion and the flash freezes detail. I used opposing color filters on the remotes to get better depth in the subject. In post processing I used a combination of effects from both Illustrator and PhotoShop. The big trick was getting the file size down by rasterizing my AIs in PS and reopening them in AI and re-saving as a vector.

Another shot in my series of shots from Ellenborough Falls in NSW. Ellenborough Falls has a spectacular single drop of around 200 metres to the valley below and is the second largest waterfall in the southern hemisphere. The Falls are found by travelling on Tourist drive eight from Taree, through Wingham and onto Elands. This road is sealed most of the way with a small amount of gravel winding road through scenic forests. I would recommend the walk to the bottom of the falls via the timber walkway and stairs for only the fit and hardy – allow 30 minutes down and 45 minutes back up. / / / /
