  • A section from Arlington West. An ongoing display of the casualties in Iraq to protest against the war in Iraq, and increase the public awareness regarding the military and political fallout of staying there. Each Sunday morning thousands of crosses, as the number of the fallen, for that day, are placed in the sand and volunteers are providing the public with up to the moment information on casualties plus individual stories on the fallen. This image was taken at memorial day 2007 as a tribute and memorial and as a cry for peace… Digitally manipulated image. • Acre (or Akko) is a city in the Western Galilee district of northern Israel. It is situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. This is a picture of the port and marina. The port is located on the south side of the old city of Acre. It was built during the Persian times (6-4thC BC), and is still in use today as a marina. The building in the background is Khan al-Umdan, the hostel of the pillars, is one of the most impressive buildings in the old city of Acre. It is located near the port and was used for storage of goods and a night hostel for the merchants. The tower raises high over the east entrance to the Khan. It was built in 1906 to honor the 30-year Jubilee of Sultan Abdul Hamid II —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—--

  • A bald eagle perched atop a bare tree and looking intensely around him reminded me of Rick and Scot, two nephews, who are serving our country in the Middle East, both of them on their second tour of duty, both having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, both with wives and children at home, both brave and giving young men. I would like to dedicate this image (taken at Amelia, Louisiana, on January 1, 2009) to Rick and Scot and to their families who are also very vital components in the defense of freedom. Thank you for your courage and perseverance. God be with you and safeguard you. Aunt Bonnie

  • This is Butte Creek, and it runs through Chico CA and is one of the creeks I like to get out to and do a little fishing on. I didn’t get a chance to on this day due to me taking photos lol. The upper portion of this stream was closed for roughly 10 years for stream restoration. The state reopened it in 2003 for fishing, and there is a section I go to Northeast of here to fish, and it’s nothing to hook into a nice 5 pounder, of course I always put them back in for the next time I return. Also done in HDR!

  • beverweerd castle, near the dutch city of utrecht. originally built as a simple fortified tower, the building was constantly extended and expanded untill the 16th century. in the 19th century, the complex got a make-over in neo gothic style, resulting in the large windows and fake battlements but despite the kitchy 19th century look, the castle is still mostly an original medieval structure. The two towers, the main eye catchers of the castle, date from the 13th century and used to flank the courtyard, untill that was replaced by the 17th century wing you see here. The castle is now in a state of disrepair. It was being renovated and restored a while ago by arealestate coorporation, but due to massive fraud and misconduct in the staff, this project came to a halt and i have no idea what the current state of the building is.

  • Cologne Cathedral The eye-catching, monumental Cycle of Kings in the choir clerestory was made sometime around 1300. In the lower third of the windows, which are almost 18 meters high, 48 kings stand in richly decorated architectural tabernacles. The representations alternate between young and old kings. Below the figures, the consoles are decorated with coats of arms of the donors. Above the figures, the lancets are decorated with complex ornamental interlacing patterns. / From the official website of Cologne Cathedral /
