tonight I went to an open mic. It was my first live performance in over a year. My voice felt horrible, tight, strained, nothing like as strong as I would expect it. I felt irritated by the platitudes of professionalism and sounding good. I know I did not. The night however, was amazing. From a random moment of urban lyrical stylings to the awe inspiring tribal drums and dancing, power, energy, people having fun with music. My drab little ditties thankfully long since forgotten. And as the night wore on the passion and intensity increased and the sexy pristines appeared, jazz funk fusion and not a frown in the house, amazing, such power, such simple fun. I was not in Newport Pagnell tonight, I was in, Cuba or Spain or somewhere wild and exciting, full of people all experiencing the same distant numbing that made us feel so far away from home, yet so full of life. I doubt I’ll sleep much tonight
