  • This photo was taken during a extreme low tide just after sunrise at Monkey Mia in Shark Bay Western Australia. You could walk out about 100 meters from the beach before you got to the water! The location of Monkey Mia is the only place on Western Australia where the sun rises over the ocean. / As you can see in this photo the sun has been blocked by the large cloud formation, but can be seen in the reflections off the wet sand. A 10 shot stitched panorama! Taken with my 20D And 17-40 f/4 L. Featured In: Australia! • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Eye See You This Pelican at Monkey Mia, Western Australia, was very different from the ones I had seen before (Australian Pelican). Have included some information regarding the Australian Pelican: The Australian Pelican Australia’s largest flying bird, the pelican has a wingspan of 3.5m and the world’s longest bill at 47cm, with an expandable pouch to hold fish. They forage day and night, alone or in groups, driving fish into the shallows and catching them with their bills. They roost on mudbanks and islands, fluttering their pouch skin to keep cool. They sometimes migrate long distances, flying in loose V formation or in line, soaring up to 3,000m high. They nest in colonies on islands and the chicks gather in groups. Their diet consists of fish and crustaceans. They inhabit fresh and saline lakes, rivers and swamps.

  • The name Mia is of Swedish origin, meaning “uncertain”....an appropriate name for this painting as I have been in two minds about something for a little while now. medium: charcoal and acrylic on stretched canvas / ............................................................................................. / size: 40cm x 40cm / ............................................................................................. / currently listening to: Sure Know Something by KISS

  • These are rather like broad tagliatelle and I prepared the dish like this… / Roast about 10 cherry tomatoes cut in half, in olive oil with 5 garlic cloves and a sprinkle of dried chili for twenty minutes. Halfway through the roasting, add some small whole mushrooms. I used oyster, buna-shimeji and shiro-shimeji varieties. Meanwhile bring some water to the boil, add salt and the pappardelle. After 5 minutes, add a handful of baby spinach leaves and cook for a further 6 minutes. / Serve the pasta with the roasted, tomatoes, garlic and mushrooms. / Total preparation and cooking time 25 minutes. Buon appetito! The lighting was overcast daylight (the best diffusser) through my kitchen window. N.B. This image is now for sale as laminated kitchen art! Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D200 / Lens: 12-24mm f4 / Focal Length: 20mm / ISO: 250 / Exposure: 1/125 sec at f /4 / Lighting: Daylight / Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 © 2008 John Hooton Photography

  • The Shark Bay Sunset Pelican Parade happens each evening, as the pelicans pack cruises close to the shoreline of Monkey Mia. Their dusk swim coincides with the return of the fishermen, who then clean their days catch on the beach. The pelicans approach in the hope of receiving a tidbit. Some see them as nuisances, but they are forever graceful and comical – and not shy when it comes to trying to snatch some fish! Taken at sunset in Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, Western Australia. Taken with a Canon 5D, 100-400mm L Series Lens @ 130mm, f5.6, 1/125th sec, ISO 1600, handheld. As is – the vignetting is natural, caused by the light subsiding around the bright sun. Featured in Waterfowl Group, Feb 2009, Australian Travel Photography Group & Animal Kingdom Group, May 2009. Featured in Pelicans Group, Nov 2009. Winner of Sunsets over Western Australia Challenge in the Western Australia Group, April 2009.

  • “There are two ways of spreading the LIGHT… / to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Edith Wharton The above saying has been a ‘mantra’ of mine for quite some time, however today as I was playing with this heARTwork, a burst of energetic LIGHT sparked beneath my feet, lighting me like a Christmas tree, up the chakra channels until I could no longer sit still. Stepping outside, with camera in tow, the most ethereal skyline I have ever seen… If we are to transform the world, we must first transform ourselves… With this insight, my intentions are to provide a melody of opportunities, tools and experiences to assist those seeking the ‘CHANGE’... Change the World

  • I’ve been playing with an older Minolta flash on my Canon 50D. I’m considering buying a new flash, but I still want to practice more, and be 100% that I really NEED or even WANT one. • Many Native American Medicine Society’s, in almost every tribe consisted of a society of women, or bringers of the rain that nurtures the abundance of their food sources. The Three Sisters ~ corn, beans and squash fed many tribal peoples as a regular staple when game, fish and other crops were not plentiful. The WhirlWind Buffalo Sisterhood began just before Miracle, the white buffalo calf was born in Wisconsin, on August 20, 1994. A rainbow culture promising peace among all nations and all people, stressing equality and opposing any superior race that controls or conquers other peoples. The Unity of all colors, all creeds, all beliefs, working together for the good of the whole and when all pathways to wholeness are respected by all cultures, the prophesy of the Whirling Rainbow will be completed. When the time of the White Buffalo, the third generation of White eyes children will grow their hair and speak of love as the healer of the Children of the Earth. These children will seek new ways of understanding themselves and others. They will wear feathers and beads and paint their faces. They will seek the Elders of the Red Race and drink of their wisdom. These white-eyes will be a sign that the ancestors are returning in white bodies, but they are red on the inside. They will learn to walk the Earth Mother in balance again and reform the ideas of the white chiefs. These children will be tested as they were when they were Red ancestors by unnatural substances, like firewater, to see if they can remain on the Sacred Path. After the time when the buffalo returned, the generation following the Flower Children would see the dawning of the Fifth World of Peace. Appearing to those who see, would be a Sun Dog, or full rainbow circle around the Sun that has bright white lights at the Four Directions, a rare natural phenomena. Enough of the Earth Children will be awakened to carry the responsibility of the teachings and the healing process will begin in full swing. Many will remember their “purpose” for being here on Earth and will develop their gifts to assist humanity. Truth will shatter the bonds of separation and goodness will prevail with tolerance, acceptance and understanding. The WhirlWind Buffalo Sisterhood has consistently sought knowledge that changes lies to truths, that have made us mistrust one another and replace the illusion of separation with the truth of UNITY. In non-violence and peaceful energetic, teach that a worthy opponent will present lessons to make us grow beyond any high drama and into a sense of unity within Self, to then share with others remembering that any challenges to unity are equal to our ability to overcome them. The buffalo symbolized not only the strength of the Whirlwind, but also prosperity and abundance ~ the past 15 years, since Miracles’ birth ~ the Tribe of All Nations has been gathering physically, mentally, emotionally, tribally, socially, morally and spiritually all over the world, even more so with cyber-space communications. Can you deeply, completely and profoundly accept yourself and others with all the faults, problems and limitations, as well as the gifts, strengths and ability to love? / ©tkrosevear~WindOwl Mandala sketch photographed, painted, edited and merged with Buffalo photograph in photoshop7 with final editing in redfield plug-in fractilius. • This is Mia .... she has been called a Dilute Calico, a Ragdoll, or perhaps she may even be a mixed breed of sorts. Whatever she is, she is the most photogenic kitty, and we love her like crazy. I believe she turned 9 last month…. We’ve had her since she was 2.

  • The summer of 1969 was a time of change. It was the year of the Beatles swansong, the first manned moon landing, and hippies protested and clashed with the establishment over U.S. involvement in Vietnam. On a dairy farm in the town of Bethel in upper state New York, the greatest musical and cultural event of the millenium happened. The Woodstock Music & Arts Fair, billed as an Aquarian Exposition, was held during the weekend of August 15th through the 17th. Starring thirty top names in popular entertainment, the Woodstock Festival’s attendance was unprecedented for the time / Attendance estimates vary from source to source, ranging anywhere from about 75,000 on the low side, to well over 1,500,000 on the high side. The best guess, which is close to the average of all estimates, would be between a third to a half million people. It’s impossible to determine exact numbers, as the fences around the site were never completed in time, so tickets were never taken – it was a free concert. / For “three days of peace & music” Woodstock was a living, breathing, working city. In the last great multi-day music festival of our time, the young people showed the world that all those hippies could co-exist for a prolonged period of time without a catastrophe (and with little or no police intervention). / THE ARTISTS that made history… / Richie Havens / Sweetwater / Bert Sommer / Tim Hardin / Ravi Shankar / Melanie / Arlo Guthrie / Joan Baez / Quill / Country Joe McDonald / John B. Sebastian / Keef Hartley Band / SANTANA / Incredible String Band / Canned Heat / Grateful Dead / Creedance Clearwater Revival / Janis Joplin / Sly & the Family Stone / The WHO / Jefferson Airplane / Joe Cocker / Country Joe & the Fish / Leslie West/Mountain / Ten Years After / The Band / Johnny Winter / Blood, Sweat & Tears / Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / Paul Butterfield Blues Band / Sha Na Na / Jimi Hendrix / Joni Mitchell As we approach the 40th Anniversary of the “Summer of 1969”, I thought it fitting to Launch a special challenge for our Musically Inspired Artists of MIA ~ the reason for this artwork… / Created with Wacom Pen in Photoshop with the exception of the original Woodstock poster in the center, using Redfield plug-in Fractilius filter, Poster edges and saturation filtering. • In March of this year, my husband Lynn and I had the great pleasure of meeting, sharing and being blessed by Lindsay Wagner (deeksha blessing), by participating in an experiential workshop, she calls “Quiet the Mind, Open the Heart”. In addition, I was further blessed by being invited to her home for a private session for several hours, where she re-awakened my knowledge of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and also known by several other names. She also reminded me how our past experiences, with our inner file cabinets, color our perceptions of the world and our reactions to it. Like a particular incident that causes pain that we refuse to allow to heal, and even though we are very intelligent, our familial and/or societal upbringing, beliefs and responses can program us to react in ways that rob our joy in daily life. She helped me to explore my prior programming and shift my perspective beyond it, “to experience life as it is in the moment.” / One of the most profound gifts she gave me were the words upon this image, a new daily practice of mine ~ while touching just above the heart in a circular motion, I say each of these phrases three times, especially when experiencing any stress, but most often a daily mantra. It has had such a healing effect on regaining some power within my life, I thought I would share it here. / Image is a sketch of scales balanced, photographed and edited in photoshop7 with fractilius filter and text. / My hope and intention is that those that will benefit from this simple tool, will utilize and share it to heal themselves and others. / / Feelings

  • No one alive will ever see this again! / I know that I won’t be getting much sleep in August, as my eyes will be on the skies to witness the red planet up close and personal. / Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. It is guesstimated, the next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. / Due to the way Jupiter’s gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again. / The encounter will culminate on August 27th, when Mars comes within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the Moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide, at a modest 75 power magnification. / Mars will look as large as the full Moon to the naked eye and will be easy to spot at the beginning of August as it rises in the east at 10pm and reaching its azimuth at 3am. By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 am. / Truly a sight that no human being has seen in recorded history, so mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see and watch Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month… / Mars is the security department head, responding with action and self-defense, making you brave, courageous, daring and even fearless, symbolically speaking. Mars placement in your natal birth chart describes how you act on your own behalf. In the body, Mars rules the head, representing SELF; the blood, representing your expressing and receiving; and, muscles representing our ability to move in life. Mars is in charge of how you assert yourself and how you express anger, the side of you that initiates all activity. In astrology, Mars rules the signs of Aries and Scorpio, as the symbol of an aggressive man, personified as the Roman God Mars, the Greek God Ares, or the Mesopotamian God Nergal helmeted with a shield and sword or spear, perhaps mounted, sometimes with a wolf, and all associated with the energies of violence, courage, ardour, tension, fire, iron, the color red, the South direction and Tuesday. / Life on Mars? / Nasa photo of Earth and Mars (wikipedia) edited in photoshop7 with Fractilius filter (Redfield plug-in), saturation and lens flare rendering. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SKIES! Thanks to CJ for the reminder too ;)
