  • Sunrise in the city is very different. This is a pastel drawing undertaken in the summer 2006 and was the starting point for a number of works based on this image. • Companion image to City Sunrise “I’ve always been attracted to the hinterland of reality.. that place close to abstraction. In this case any sense of reality is a construct.. it is realistic in the sense that aerials and masts etc are recognisable urban features but in another sense they are nothing more than scratches and scribbles that approximate to the actual objects. There is no actual place where this vista exists… although I have often seen bits of this pictures. This is the visual landscape I enjoy operating in.. recognisable to an extent but also almost entirely imagined. Its a place but not a place.. it has forms but not real forms… but you can probably say exactly the same of every work of art. Some people think that aiming at realism is somehow truer to the subject but every photographer knows that even the most realistic depictions can be altered and made super realistic or less realistic.” This is one of a series of pictures based on the City Sunrise pastel sketch. • New York City west side skyline at night shot from New Jersey

  • Mid Town Manhattan Skyline shot from New Jersey

  • Being an environmentally friendly artist.. I decided I wanted to make the city a little “greener”. My advice is get it printed big.. because 1) it looks rather excellent printed big.. and 2) I make more money. Imagine this on your wall in your living room.. and the neighbours saying “he’s not very good he can’t even draw straight lines !” This work is also available as a SIGNED LIMITED EDITION PRINT please contact me for further details Available as a signed limited edition print direct from artist. / This work is also included in my Digital Landscapes Calender. • A work from my Metropolis series of digital montages. One of my interests is exploring the nature of realism. I like to create images that might at first glance be photographs.. but then on closer inspection are clearly not. This work is also available as a SIGNED LIMITED EDITION PRINT please contact me for further details. For anyone interested in buying this work is also available as part of my Digital Landscapes Calender. For those with a limited budget this is a great way to buy a lot images at lower cost.

  • This is a painting I did three years ago. It was intended as a tribute to the great city of Liverpool, England and whilst being a bit whimsical it did include images of the Anglican Cathedral, the Catholic Cathedral, Saint John’s Beacon and of course the Beatles. I swapped it with a popular Vancouver (Canada) artist, John Ferrie, for one of his lovely floral acrylics. I wish I’d never swapped now … although I still like John’s painting and it still / hangs on our wall. Owing to a misunderstanding of English etiquette, when I sent John a photo of his painting hanging on our wall he failed to reciprocate. A photo of my painting hanging on John’s wall would have meant an awful lot to me, ‘cos I really respected the guy. Instead of good-naturedly returning my compliment, he claimed I was forcing him to “jump through hoops” when I reminded him a month later. He refused to take the photo and stopped emailing me, claiming I must be suffering from depression … sad, but these things happen and I wish him no ill … he’s a good artist and was a good friend while it lasted. Wherever you are John, I wish you a happy 2009.

  • “A work from my Metropolis series. I like the idea of an interaction with street art.. sadly the street artists don’t seem that interested. I’ve always loved graffiti, the way a random event or obscenity is given a wider audience and I decided as a response to street art invading art galleries I would steal elements of street art and incorporate some gratuitous art graffiti.” More to come. Available as a signed limited edition print direct from the artist.

  • At this time this is my most “favorited” work at Red Bubble.. but not my most visited by a long way. Interesting.. • Constantine The Great statue outside York Minster / Grant awarded from Heritage Lottery Fund. • This is a panoramic of 10 photos stitched together to make a complete image of York Minster. York Minster is a Gothic cathedral in York, England and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe alongside Cologne Cathedral. The Minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England, and is cathedral for the Diocese of York; it is run by a Dean and Chapter under the Dean of York. The formal title of York Minster is The Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of St Peter in York. Services in the Minster are sometimes regarded as on the high church Anglo-Catholicism side of the Anglican scale.[1] It has a very wide Decorated Gothic nave and chapter house, a Perpendicular Gothic choir and east end, and Early English north and south transepts. The nave contains the West Window, constructed in 1338, and over the Lady Chapel in the east end is the Great East Window, (finished in 1408), the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world. In the north transept is the Five Sisters Window, each lancet being over 16 metres (52 ft) high. The south transept contains the famous Rose window. / Grant awarded from Heritage Lottery Fund. The four-year scheme is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is being run in partnership with ConstructionSkills and the National Heritage Training Group, English Heritage, the National Trust and Cadw Canon 1Ds Mk2 / 24mm / ISO 100 / 10 images stitched together

  • A work inspired by a photo by Denis Dalby of the same name. I’d had this idea for a while.. but Denis’s excellent image was the catalyst for this series including the “Stop” landscapes. Unlike the “Stop” pictures there is very little of Denis’s image left here.. but this way of working directly relates to Denis’s image. I like to co-operate with others.. and give credit for my sources. I must admit I personally like this work and feel there are lots of possibilities here for future works but I wasn’t at all sure how it would be received.. I’ve probably had more responses on this work in the first 24 hrs than I any I can remember ! Thanks.. much appreciated.
