Adelaide is no Metopolis when it comes to it’s skyline. Rather small in comparison to many other capital cities around. The Westpac Building (formally the SANTOS building) is the biggest building in Adelaide, and rather obvious at any angle of the CBD. This is the reason why I miss carrying a camera with me at all times, so I can capture moments like this one. It was early morning on a weekend (which is a rare sight for me) and I was strolling through town and came across this scene. Our buildings maybe small but from this angle it looks as if it’s in the clouds none the less.

Some retro vector futurism for a Redbubble challenge . There’s a lot of detail here that’s hard to see from a preview, but I was trying to capture a black and white view of the future behind a Deco/Nouveau facade. I got inspiration from a few sources… The defining futuristic film Metropolis by Fritz Lang, / The yellow brick road from the Wizard of Oz / The Jetsons :) The shape of the city buildings was actually adpated from a picture I took inside the lobby of the fantastic Neo gothic Manchester Unity building in Melbourne. / The ‘fan’ shapes in the cornicing worked out well as skyscrapers. Heavy photoshop design special effects and colorful hues saturated for brightness. Multi-photo manipulation cut and paste of a mini culture society in city urban neighborhood setting. Masking technique and layer styles for dramatic effect. Lighting and contrast for depth. Trimmed, layered and added on the background many objects such as vehicles in traffic, Los Angeles skyline and archectually creative styled buidings, people and many other aspects of dense populated urban jungle. A multi – layered city of financial status. At the bottom a large amount of homeless low income low wage labor slums and neighborhoods. deep in the jungle. The next level are moderate to good living people off to work in their cars to greet the daily, bump and grind, dine a dime again just for today, scratch and try to save all in one day to meet need with the 9 to 5’s. Third level are execs., people of importance, business owners and perhaps celebs. People with affluence and money. / Top level are the politicians. Large land tycoons, corporate CEO’s, chief of the police the arch bishop, The movers and the shakers of the megalopolis -a huge try city metropolis. Three cities merging into one mega city: a megalopolis.
