  • a rainbow I noticed from the widow in my PC room and captured from my deck here in East Tennessee.

  • after many many hours and km’s…. this storm was dead and I thought I had missed a ‘dream shot’. The lightinging had become so sparse it seemed ridiculous even sitting on the beach to watch, yet alone be set up to photograph lightning ! / But alas ! this storm had one final freak discharge to exult to earth….ahhh….patience and persistence. :) / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2008 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking below / /

  • Lightning in an Oklahoma thunderstorm

  • A thunderstorm rapidly maturing over the western top-end of Australia. It violently throws lightning bolts out the side of the updarught from 30,000ft high, landing them some 20km’s from the actual storm…The rumbles are clearly audible from amidst the silence of this ‘crocodile’ looking estaury and beach. / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2007 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking on the preview image below. / / / /

  • Here in the western top-end of Australia another pulse storm rockets up high in the atmosphere and unleashes a torrent of rain onto those lucky few beneath it …relief from the stifling heat and humidity associated with the late build up season…Don’t wait for it to come to you though….they are not called pulse storms for no reason…and just as quickly as it forms, it disapates…not even a drop at this location with its core within several km’s…This Magnetic termite field has no doubt scored well already this season with the plain a vibrant green glowing beneath a spectacular 30seconds of sunshine. / / – for those interested, a bit more about this photograph,my thinking and feelings about it. (taken from one of my own comments) / / This photograph like so many others of mine is born from a concept I have had for many years…for me it sums up the region beautifully and is what I’d class as iconic in some ways as I am always drawn and intrigued by the integral link between climate, topography and nature – it’s a marvellous symbiotic existance of all things being…. many trips through out these type of plains wishing or visualising, but the componants never aligning left me disatisfied with the results til now… / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2008 bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / see more of my weather related photography by clicking below / /

  • Deep blue sky and white frayed clouds over late summer hills in Molise (Italy)

  • click for better view / / Taken in the normally fertile Sth.Gippsland hills of southern Victoria. A distant thunderstorm brings some temporary relief for a lucky few as the the long dry of summer continues again this season… / / larger file uploaded / / / Fuji G617 – no cropping,no stitching. • A 4 second exposure over Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria…This thunderstorm really got going and had me licking my lips with enthusiastic anticipation as frequent pulsating ‘blue’ and ‘purple’ tinged bolts screamed down from the heavens…a bit of a pity it weakened after 10minutes and 10km’s short of my location. I still managed to capture this awesome staccato bolt though ! / / / EOS A2, Fuji Velvia 50 view this image large bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio ©T.Middleton2009 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / / *see more of my weather related photography by clicking below / /

  • As always please click on the image for a larger more detailed view. / I took this photograph last week (02-04-2008) on the day that gale force northerly winds ripped through the state of Victoria. The winds raised dust in the north west to central west of the state, some of which eventually blew into Bass Strait. / Here on the South Gippsland coast the blanket of red-brown dust approaches and crosses Bass Strait ahead of the rainband. I had to find a place of relative shelter from the 100km/h winds to capture this amazing scene before me. With the shores protected from the winds by the towering cliffs the water several hundred meters offshore was almost a blur with ‘reverse’ whitecaps. The ocean took on an incredible cobalt blue colour whilst the sky looked eerie and from another planet. • As always – click image for a better view / / A chilly morning on the Mt William range sees cloud and mist plummet off the ridgeline as the colder air sinks into the shadows of the range. Meanwhile the rising sun warms the rockfaces and slopes to the west, forcing the cold damp air to warm, rise and dry – thus lifting and dissapating the ‘downstream flow’ of this ‘waterfall of clouds’. / This ongoing spectacle continued for several hours and was a real highlight to watch and experience ! / / / / Fuji G617 – no cropping,no stitching. • Beautiful and very unusual summer time sunset in Iroquois County Illinois-USA featuring a beautiful showing of Crepuscular Rays-those sunbeams you see streaming through clouds and those you see reaching to the sky at sunset. I’ve never seen one like this before and don’t know if I ever will again. Thanks to PigleT for the information regarding the Rays! Taken with a Nikon CoolPix5700

  • As always please click on the image for a larger more detailed view. / This is another shot from the dust storm event that occured earlier in 2008 in Victoria. I already uploaded a photograph from this event but I really love the rare ‘cobalt’ coloured water in this one which was taken about 30minutes after the previous image that I uploaded. Here on the South Gippsland coast the blanket of red-brown dust approaches and crosses Bass Strait ahead of the rainband. I had to find a place of relative shelter from the 100km/h winds to capture this amazing scene before me. • ... the consequence flooding of the energy abuse

  • A squall line about to engulf the southern Victorian coastline. Visible here is approaching gustfront, heralding the squall line’s imminent arrival. In the bottom right of frame a fleeing fisherman takes a moment to catch his breath and survey the ineluctable storm. / ©T.Middleton2009 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / / see more of my TRUE panoramic photography by clicking on the image below / /

  • A well developed cumulunimbus or thundercloud above a small lake on the Alaska-BC border. The system was growing rapidly, its height and width changing visibly. I slightly over-used the c. polariser, but I don’t mind it as the structure of the cloud is well shown (Alaska).

  • Scape with sky, clouds and water

  • If you’re wondering what this shot depicts, I’ll give you a clue. It’s metallic, as you can see from the rivets along the silver portion. Need another clue? The object is very uplifting! And the third and final clue – this shot was taken at the Australian International Air Show at Avalon Airport in 2007. It’s simply a winglet – the upswept portion of an aircraft wingtip. I had a rare opportunity to stand directly under the port wing of a Qantas Boeing 737 to shoot the graceful, sweeping curve against a clearing sky. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/250 sec, ISO 200, focal length 38mm AvalonAirShow2007-7795
