“When you have come to the edge of all light that you know and are about to drop off into darkness of the unknown. Faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.” Patrick Overton.

This is the actual shape of the canvas The shape of the canvas becomes an integral part of this painting to enhance the illusion of a three dimensional object. / “Metaphor For A Metaphor” is about our predilection for categorizing everything that we experience, whether it fits into our scheme of things or not. And then, ultimately, resorting to using metaphors when we can’t.. / Hence the box which is distorted out of context… The round peg into a square hole that we seem to love the most…. As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud’s theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren’t they all?) of myself and how the “id” and “ego” play in our life decisions. We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our “id”’s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our “ego” that keeps the “id” in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking. It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the “id” overcomes. Some choose to live only by the “id”s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts….the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.
This piece is based on how much we base our decisions off of love. Not condemning it, but rather it intrigues me what those will do in the name of love. Many people have died for love, have fought for love, and have sacrificed for love. It’s a powerful feeling that enslaves us, causing us to react in ways we may not deem normal in a clear state of mind, but like they say, Love is intoxicating. 2nd traditional piece I’ve ever attempted with acrylics. It was (key word, was, because it was sold lol)a 18×24 inch stretched canvas with acrylics and india ink. I miss this piece dearly, but at least I have a wonderful jpeg of it’s remains.
A metaphor for the Spirit and divinity, symbolizing inner enlightenment and the presence of a cosmic power of ultimate goodness and truth. Acrylics, ink and graphite – Best viewed in large format

I measure every Grief I meet / With narrow, probing, Eyes.. / I wonder if it weighs like Mine / Or has an Easier size. I wonder if They bore it long / Or did it just begin / I could not tell the Date of Mine / It feels so old a pain I wonder if it hurts to live / And if They have to try / And whether..could They choose between / It would not be..to die I note that Some, gone patient long, / At length, renew their smile.. / An imitation of a Light / That has so little Oil I wonder if when Years have piled / Some Thousands on the Harm / That hurt them early..such a lapse / Could give them any Balm Or would they go on aching still / Through Centuries of Nerve / Enlightened to a larger Pain / In Contrast with the Love The Grieved are many…I am told. / There is the various Cause.. / Death is but one..and comes but once / And only nails the eyes There’s Grief of Want..and grief of Cold.. / A sort they call “Despair” / There’s Banishment from native Eyes / In Sight of Native Air And though I may not guess the kind. / Correctly..yet to me / A piercing Comfort it affords / In passing Calvary. To note the fashions…of the Cross, / And how they’re mostly worn… / Still fascinated to presume / That Some, are like My Own.Emily Dickinson / / 12×14 is a bit of an anomaly for me, and is the beginning of a new journey….painted in watercolour on Arches Rough Paper it is also part of the Abstract Collection and the Tools Series…...the title refers to numbers and shapes and lengths, a carpenter, tools, math, metaphor, humanity, stories….. / There are so many layers to the painting…as part of the tool series, it is a picture of nails, but once you get past that, it turns into something else…the pain of piercing grief, the ties to Christianity, death and eyes nailed shut, the number of triangles which seem to go on to infinity, three points, the measurement of time, the measurement of the nails themselves…the structure that they make which is somewhat like a house…the sharp points etc..etc..and the background which though it seems like a landscape, is also reminiscent of the nails… the poem says so much too…. I hope it helps to get a deeper understanding of the painting /

I think ever since him and I met and started talking, I always thought to myself either “Dude, this guy would be an awesome dad” or “I want to be like him when I grow up.” He’s got a good heart, and the Universe often seems to just be after him… and that sucks. Tryin to keep a brotha DOWN! But yes. I’d have his back if he needed help, cause a big guy with a big heart who gets flooded with a ton of crap, needs a break every now and again with the help of his friends. More recently, he’s done something that really only further inspired me, and amplified my want to do this picture, as it felt so appropriate. Belic has amazing stregnth and determination when it comes to helping others, who’s not afraid to be himself or do what he thinks is right no matter how hard it is for him. Ya sounds a little cheesy, but ya know what? I more than respect that about him, I frickn love that about him. I look up to him in that aspect. :) I’ve had this idea stuck in my head for months, of Belic about to beat the shit out of a great white shark with dynamite and a pic axe. It’s a metaphor, to where the pic-axe represents effort, and the shark represents troubles. The dynamite doesn’t represent anything, it’s just dynamite to blow shit up. Pushed this thing out as soon as my schedule freed up, and got it done pretty quick. I experimented with a few things here, like the style for one. It’s a bit on the comic/illustrative side with some exaggerated lines. I was going for a little bit of dynamics and I tried to limit my colors, and I was also trying to work within a perfect-square composition. This entire style was inspired by an awesome artist, named Jared Moratis (Pop Monkey)... It’s very ‘skater-ish’ with the almost obnoxiously saturated colors and outlines. Love the style. Artfulreggie and IG_Kirk helped me out with this one with brainstorming. :)
