This painting is one of my most attached one & close to my heart for the reason that i started with this painting long back and i gave this title to it because this was indeed a captured moment from my real life childhood as once i and my sister were playing and suddenly a huge storm followed with heavy rains broke down making very tough for me & my sister to cross within those rushing waters…..however my sister made her way holding my hand all the way getting out of that flow which even today i cannot forget….just tried to give a feeling with my brush in my initial days of painiting and if you look at it carefully i even framed it myself with sand paints on it. This is a replica of my hometown, my childhood memories still not fadded and whenever i miss my town..i go near this painting and touch the flowing waters and the thick trees which makes me relaxed & a stroke of cool breeze flow away all around inviting memory tears to flow with that glow..!!! The size is small like 1 feet X 8 inch done with acrylic on paper, but the memories are unforgetable…my sister loves this a lot. /
A thoughtful lion, vigorous American poet. An icon in his time, Longfellow’s poetry has been memorized by millions of school children and movies were made from his stories. The author of “Hiawatha”, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere”, hundreds of other wonderful story poems about life, love, and brave adventure in America. He lived during the reign of England’s Queen Victoria and I think was a bit reactionary in writing his epic poems about the wild and wooly early America, during a time when all the swells here were mimicking high teas. But for sheer lyrical adoration of the sensitivities, the beauty, and poetic language of the American Indian, he’s never been matched. His words are all picture and power. I wanted braids down my back and a birchbark canoe the first minute I met Hiawatha on the shores of Gitchigoomi, at the business end of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s pen.
In a few minutes the Sun will come up in Titusville, Florida and from this park on the waterfront, dedicated to America’s Astronauts, the Space Shuttle’s special housing building will become visible in the foreground to the left of this capture. / A near perfect cold winter morning in Florida.
Twice this week, my husband has got me out of bed before dawn. The first time, on Tuesday (29.04.2008), I didn’t see the sun rise as I was eating breakfast; however, today, he woke me up at 0545, to take him to a site where he will be working all day. He had to be there at 0700 and it’s about ¾ of an hour away. I was NOT looking forward to this – the last time I saw dawn was in 1974, I think! The only thing in his favour this morning was, it wasn’t absolutely freezing! Anyway, I put my camera in the car and off we went, me still half asleep (cruel man!), and grumbling at the injustice of life at that hour of the day, a most uncivilized hour!!! On the way home, I was able to pull up and take a few photos although, I was disappointed that, since i was actually out of the house, Mother Nature didn’t put on a spectacular show for me! Such inconsiderate behaviour! I know there are at least three people who won’t believe I was even awake, let alone out of the house at this hour of the day, so, VISUAL PROOF was essential. Ths pic has not been altered in any way except cropping and then enlarging. I hope it brings you memories of dawns which were memorable for you! Thanks for looking – all comments and criticisms are welcome.

This is a colab with jegustavsen who does some amazing typographic work… check it! “Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles.” - Og Mandino

On occasions during my travels I have had the feeling of being ” Beyond the Hills” – away in a far off place where no one from home could see me or what I was seeing. I had the intense feeling of being very priveliged to be in a place and time and having the opportunity of recording the images before me. Beyond the Hills is a collection of images that has touched me in such a way. I hope you can share some of the feeling. Martin..........
