Barack Obama is 2008’s “Person of the Year” as declared by TIME Magazine. I think it’s amazing that we were all able to witness history in the making with him winning the 2008 Election. I decided to do a series of Obama portraits in recognition of his achievements.
Another treasure from the Hackberry General Store and Museum on Historical Route 66 in Arizona, USA. / Well worth a visit if you’re out that way. Featured in Route 66 – The Mother Road group, RedBubble, June 2009. / /
This pretty girl can be found sitting in retirement out the back at Hackberry General Store on historic Route 66 in Arizona USA. Well worth a visit to this amazing store/museum if you’re in the area. Stopped there en route from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim during my recent visit to the States. /

A great old carriage with the wonderful Australian Army insignia, to be found at Ravenshoe Rail Yards lovingly restored by Railco volunteers. The Capella steam train still runs most Saturdays. / I have some more nice railway prints available, these look great in sets. /
A circa 1850’s wagon wheel from the California Gold Rush Era. This photograph was taken in Old Town Sacramento, California with a Canon XTI.
This is a small sampling of the Route 66 and other roadside memorabilia located in the Classical Gas Museum in Embudo, NM, located along the Rio Grande, about halfway between Espanola and Taos. The proprietor, Johnnie Meier, is president of the Route 66 New Mexico Association and is a contributing editor to the Route 66 and American Roads magazines. He is a prominent and effective voice for Route 66 restoration and commemoration and is the principal force behind an ongoing project to restore old neon signs at motels and restaurants across the State of New Mexico. I found this at the Legion on Friday night where we went for Nikos benefit, it was in a glass case with lots of memorabilia from our servicemen and i thought the little pay book was a very poignant reminder of these wonderful people who fought terrible wars so we could be free … taken with the Sony on auto, no flash just used the lighting of the case
Abandoned gas pumps, vinatge scene, a retro moment. The ghosts of yesteryear slowly bleach out in the high desert sun near Route 66.
Second of the set that I took of various memorabilia (all inherited from my dad and which brought poignant memories – miss you dad…)
I snapped this as I went by on the train… I have always wanted to get some shots of this… but never had a camera worthy.. I think I might have found a camera that works ok now :) for me anyway lol…
Just a close up…
An old cart from the California Gold Rush Days.
An old cart fenced in by wrought iron in historic, old town Folsom, California.
One of the planes my grandfather worked on during WWII was named the Buckeye Battle Cry. The plane on the shirt is not the Buckeye Battle Cry nor is the logo the one that was on the plane (it was a deer), but this is my homage to my grandfather’s service during WWII. Those patches are however the ones my grandfather wore while he was in France.
This photograph represents, for me, not only the hope and promise which is inherent in the Presidency of Barack Obama, but also the hopes, dreams, and optimism of the American people and people from around the world. In Barack Obama, I feel that we have a dynamic, compassionate individual whose wisdom, intelligence, and willingness to listen to others will be essential in confronting the enormous problems that confront America and the entire world. With the support, sacrifice, and work of the American people, it is my hope that President Obama will lead us into a brighter future, one in which people of all colors, races, religions, ethnic origins, and life choices, live in mutual respect. I look to a more peaceful world, one in which the greatness of America is manifest by the elimination of poverty and by the establishment of equal opportunity for all. The photograph, then, represents the fulfillment of all the hope and promise which is embodied in our new President, Barack Obama.
