Memoirs of a Japanese War Bride Art print From 1944 to the early 50’s thousands of Japanese women fell in love with servicemen, married and started new lives in alien countries. / It must have been an incredible struggle to leave their extended families, friends, country and merge into new cultures. This started out as a full length Geisha dancing but somewhere along the way this concept just grew of it’s own accord, funny how that happens;) / Mixed Media. Available as a print and card / Image copyright © 2008 Shanina Conway. / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited.

When these two little girls scurried past me , deep in conversation, oblivious to everything, and loosely clutching a couple of balloons I just quickly sketched them. Most of it is from memory because they were gone in a flash, but I could see their red balloons floating far in the distance. Watercolour on paper (125lb) 12×16

This original of this photo was just a partial of a graffiti wall in New York City that I spotted back in May 2009. I did some editing and playing around until I saw this woman and what felt like a revisiting to the Art Deco days. I was trying for a Dark Noir aura.
