  • Life is short, and shortly it will end; / Death comes quickly and respects no one, / It destroys everything and takes pity on no one. / To death we are hastening, let us refrain from sinning. If you don’t turn back and become like a child, / And change your life for the better, / You will not be able to enter, blessed, the Kingdom of God. / To death we are hastening, let us refrain from sinning. Remember that you are a Mortal

  • The Travelers Bookcase
    by Foxfires

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Every traveler has a home of his own, and he learns to appreciate it the more from his wandering. / - Charles Dickens —-—-——- This picture is of our very own bookcase here at home, with little momentos collected from all around…. and tiny spaces waiting for those things not yet plucked from distant lands. For me, that quote by Dickens is so true. I absolutely thirst to travel and explore… and yet it makes me cherish that quiet place we’ve carved out for ourselves here at home. Sometimes the best pleasure is curling up in a chair with a cup of coffee, glancing over at the bookcase where these eclectic treasures are kept, and savoring the memories attached to each one with great leisure. ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires / All of my artwork and photographs are © All Rights Reserved Worldwide. / My artwork and photos do not belong to the public domain.

  • Two years ago, I found this old Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera at a garage sale, and I bought it for $2.00! It’s not a rare model, to be sure, but my mom had one very similar to that, and the sight of it brought up a lot of pleasant memories. It was the first camera that I remember seeing in use in our family, and the first one that I ever tried myself as well. I was fascinated by the way it was held at waist level and I felt so grown up when my mom showed me how to use it for the first time. I must have been about 6 or 7 at the time… Another great memory. I decided to make a shot of the Brownie, trying to depict the concept of childhood souvenirs. My sister found my old Skipper doll (Barbie’s younger sister) and gave it back to me some time ago. I received that doll when I was five, as a present when I had my tonsils removed. I can still remember the joy of opening the wardrobe case and fingering all the tiny garments on little plastic hangers. I loved her hair because my Skipper was a redhead just like my baby sister! Finally there is another keepsake from my childhood that I cherish and still use once in a while. It’s my first recipe book, published by the Carnation Company in 1964 (English title was The Fun Cook Book). I love their meat loaf recipe! I chose to make a triptych using the Brownie, the Skipper and the recipe book, as well as some old pictures taken by my mom in the 60s with her own Brownie (she had the one with a flash). I tried to match the colours and tones of all three shots with the pictures in the image on the right made with the Brownie. Those pictures have been masked and have not been altered at all. • Martindale Farm
    by Paul Davey

    US$6.65–US$152.00

Photographed in the hamlet of Martindale, near Ullswater, Cumbria – literally a couple of farm houses and a church. And a telephone box. This photograph is of Hause Farm, a collection of stone barns and buildings nestling in this lush, rugged landscape. If you like this photograph, have a look at this one too . It was shot from exactly the same spot, just 90 degrees to the left! Canon 10D / 1/45th sec at f16 / 15 -30mm lens at 15mm / ISO 100

  • The Descent
    by Paul Davey

    US$6.65–US$152.00

Between Lake Windermere and Ullswater one of the routes you can take is over the Kirkstone Pass. In the valleys, I can assure you it was spring; up at the summit, it was still winter, with the clouds covering the peaks and wind and rain lashing the rocks and grass. I shot this image from inside the car – the wind making it almost impossible to set up a tripod – and an umbrella useless for protecting my camera from the wet. This view looks down towards the Ullswater valley. The distant, barely visible expanse of water is the small lake Brothers Water. Canon 10D / 1/160th sec at f 7.1 / 35 – 135mm Canon lens at 35mm (56mm equivalent) / ISO 100

  • Favorite Things
    by Ginny Schmidt

    US$21.38–US$114.00

Some of my favorite things are to be found on my bookshelves. Books, for one, top my all time list of favorite things. Ever since I was old enough to hold a book upside down and pretend to read, I have loved books with a passion. Also on the shelves are treasures like an old cigar box, with I know not what in it; a glass paperweight, a gift from a friend; next to that, a little catnip mouse (don’t ask me how it got there); I Ching and Tarot cards; a photo of me, signed to my daddy with love and framed in a leather case that he carried into WWII … all the more poignant because I did not lay eyes on him again until I was thirty-two. / / If I had planned this picture, I would have at least staged it properly, with all the book titles right way up. But, no, I was just scanning the shelves one day looking for something fresh to read, when I was suddenly struck by the inspiration. looking at this now, I see I need to purge my shelves (as well as all my other possessions) of out dated things. I don’t suppose that the Idiot’s Guide to Mac OS 8.5 will do anybody any good now … except, possibly, as a collectors item … anybody? / / Oh, and for the benefit of any who cannot believe how adorable I was, yes, in 1944, and is not satisfied with the enlarged view of this picture, below is a detail of the sweet little mini me: / / Card option has been deslected because of the cropping issue, which, fortunately, is not a problem with laminated prints. /

On a rock by the shore, I saw this man sitting, It just made my imagination wake up. I used a Nikon D200 for the photo, I had to help the moon a bit, since it was a bit small.

  • Cumbrian Stream
    by Paul Davey

    US$6.65–US$152.00

I photographed this stream, one of many thousands that lace their way through the fells and dales of Cumbria near Ullswater at a place called Boredale Head. It was at the end of a road near a remote farmhouse and very little else besides sheep, stone walls and isolated barns. Pure heaven! Canon 10D / 1/45th sec at f 16 / 15-30mm lens at 15mm (24mm equivalent) / ISO 100
