Hey guys, don’t know about you but I thought today was a blast. I got to ride a ferris wheel, look at cool street art, drink red wine and take photos… oh hang on… I didn’t actually get around to the taking photos bit. But the red wine was good! :) In fact, I’m loving this whole “meet up” thing. It’s almost as addictive as surfing the RedBubble galleries… almost. And here are just a handful of group shots taken by Hien. (isn’t he just sooooo talented?)

Well it was another successfull Melbourne Meet Up We are all getting so friendly- it’s great to see. This time we had a record turn out, so much so that most of us can’t remember everyone else’s names yet! But it was great to see lots of fresh faces and meet you all. You better come to the next one! We ate lunch, walked around the botanic gardens, got lost and few times, had numerous toilet and caffine stops, did cartwheels (well, Jess did anyway), saw some pretty gardens, drank red wine and enjoyed each others’ company. Then I asked even more nicely and today Kodak emailed me and have so generously offered to sponsor us with a Digital Camera of some miscellaneous variety for the winner. How awesome are Kodak and Melbourne Aquarium. They were both so keen to get behind Melbourne Artists and encourage us to create some awesome art.

I’ve been talking up the trail rides in Upper Plenty for several months now and I thought it was about time I finally got around to organising the first (as far as I know) Melbourne RedBubble trail ride meet. I’ve been going to Uncle Nev’s for years now. The staff are fantastic and they cater for all experience levels whether you’ve never ridden before or you’ve been riding all your life. DETAILS DATE: Saturday the 28th of June (this is just a proposed date and is flexible, if this doesn’t suit feel free to propose another date, just make sure it’s far enough in advance to make sure we can get a booking) ADDRESS: 1115 Wallan-Whittlesea Road, Upper Plenty, 3756 (50 minutes from Melbourne CBD) TIME: 1:30pm mount up for a 2pm departure (returning around 5pm) COST: $65 for the three hour ride including a stop half-way for coffee, tea and biscuits (though once they had cupcakes so you never know your luck) / NOTE – The website says a discount applies for bookings of over 10 people so the price may work out cheaper depending on numbers, also they don’t have eftpos facilities there so bring cash WHAT TO WEAR: It’ll be cold but like any exercise you’ll warm up once you get going so dress warm but not too warm. I usually wear a jumper or jacket that I can take off and tie around my waist if I need to. Also, comfortable pants (jeans are fine), and boots are best but runners with a bit of grip are fine to. Helmets are provided. I’ve got three spaces in my car for anyone who needs a lift, but if anyone else can offer rides to people in need that would be great too. If you’ve got any other questions or you want a contact number for the day just bubblemail me. =) So who’s in?!

Good morning beautiful bubblers! / A special meet up has been planned in Melbourne for Sunday 26th April, 2009. / / Where – The Astor Theatre in St. Kilda (Click here for location) / Time – 10:00am till 12:00pm (2hrs) / / Unfortunately we are limited in time and there is also a cost for the hire of the venue so… / Participation numbers will be limited to 30. / That will enable the cost to be only $22 each. / ...and if you are great at mathematics you will find that it does cost $660 to hire the venue for two hours with the theatre lights on. / / There will be a plan put into action on the day as the theatre section of the building would be too crowded with 30 artists / models climbing over each other for space so, we will be dividing time in the Theatre itself into two groups of 15 and one hour of “creative” time for each group. / / IMPORTANT / If you wish to bring one muse / model that is cool but… if you’re thinking of bringing 2 or more they should also be paying the $22 so they can be added to the official numbers… / I’m just trying to avoid having 30 paid up photographers with 90 models running around… The Astor Theatre will get very small very quickly. / So, just try to do the right thing and get multiple models to pay $22, that way we keep numbers at a manageable level and everyone has enough creative space to work in. / / Please Bubblemail me with your interest and I’ll pass on payment information. / The final 30 participants will be listed here / I look forward to seeing you all!! :D ____________ / / Have you ever wanted to be an extra on a film set??? / Well this rare and fun opportunity exists in Melbourne on Monday evening, 23rd March. / Where? Grumpy’s – 125 Smith St in Fitzroy. A start time of 4:30pm this will give the crew some “make-up” time so shooting will start around 6pm. / Also please log onto Facebook and become Emily’s friend! Check it out! :D / To find out even more about this event please view this Forum Post and if you want more info about the company doing the filming click here / / / ____________ / / ...and just in case that wasn’t enough for you, one Melbourne’s most talented photographers Joshua Hakman is putting together an evening meet up just click here for more info! / / / Peace peeps! /

Astor Theatre, St Kilda Melbourne / Redbubble Melbourne Meet Up / 26th April 2009 The Astor Theatre is a cinema in the grand, old manner. The theatre’s proud boast is Fine Films and Atmosphere and the varied programme and “old-world” charm reflect this. When you walk into The Astor you are transported back to the days when going to the cinema was an EVENT. The cinema was built in the 1930s and still retains the art-deco charm of that period. You are greeted by soft lighting and gentle music and you can relax in the somewhat-overstuffed chairs.
Radio is located at The Astor Theatre, Melbourne.

The exhibition is drawn from the holdings of the two largest collections of Dalí in the world: – the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí in Figueres, Spain; and the Salvador Dalí Museum in St Petersburg, Florida, USA. From his birth in 1904 until his death in 1989 at the age of 85, Salvador Dalí’s life spanned almost a century of dramatic social and artistic change. A full retrospective, the exhibition will comprise more than 200 works in all media including painting, drawing, watercolour, etchings, jewellery, sculpture, fashion, cinema and photography. It will trace the genius of Dalí from his earliest years as a 14-year-old Impressionist painter, to the final paintings, addressing science and physics, created when the artist was in his seventies. Dalí’s artistic imagination was constantly fed by the ruggedly romantic landscapes of his native Catalonia, the vast wind-swept plains of the Empordà, and the rocky ‘otherworld’ of the Cap de Creus. These landscapes, infused with his unique imagination, informed the now-classic Surrealist paintings with which Dalí astonished the Parisian art world in the early 1930s. A strong group of paintings from the period of Dalí’s involvement with Surrealism in Paris will be included in the exhibition. Dalí’s ties with Spain were severed with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 and, with the outbreak of the Second World War, Salvador and his wife Gala relocated from Paris to the United States (where they were resident from 1940-48). While resident in the USA Dalí was actively involved with the fashion, theatre, publishing and film industries. Post-war, his art engaged with the atomic age and nuclear theory, as well as exploring a unique and personal religious mysticism. Salvador Dalí: Liquid Desire is a kaleidoscopic and panoramic exhibition that will surprise and delight visitors as it explores the life and art of one of the most colourful and influential figures of the twentieth century.

If so there I don’t want to be hearing any excuses not to see you at Miss Libertine on Friday the 10th July! Nat is in Melbourne at the moment too – all the way from the UK, so we figured we would gatecrash a Melbourne Group meet-up while we were in the neighbourhood :) Jo and Troy are always up for a party, so they didn’t need any convincing at all to join the party. Nat and I are going to pool our formidable winning ways and work on dragging the rest of the RB staff along too. And if our winning ways aren’t enough… well… there is always my big pointy stick which is itching for some action ;) We’ll be there from about 5-ish, hope to see you there! More info here
