“Yeeehaaa,” roared Jim. His face creased with laughter and he felt somewhat light-headed, even with the benefit of a pressure suit. He turned to Frankie at his side. “Woah! That dive gets me every time.” “Me too,” chortled Frankie, “although it’s the first time we’‘ve done it with invisibility off.” Frankie gently tweaked the single control column, levelling the, “Frisbee” over the Yarra. “What we are doing will change Earth for ever, Jim.” said Frankie grimly. All traces of the euphoria they had both felt at the end of the swoop, had evaporated like the fog over the Yarra. “Someone had to do it”, replied Jim softly. His eyes betraying a sadness, at odds with his clipped comment. They dipped lower and slowed, drifting silently forward about 100 metres above the dark waters, reflected like some giant metallic Krispy Kreme. They needed to be as visible as possible to the morning crowds. The time for pretending, misinformation and outright lies, was over. No-one could stop them now. Ever since the days of the USAF’s infamous “Project Blue Book”, cover up. There had been a small group of dissenters, effectively silenced, through means both fair and fowl. After secret and careful preparation, their time had come. They had finally decided to risk all and act. Frankie tweaked the controls and then let the craft settle into its auto landing function. They touched down near to the harbour entrance and within minutes, helicopters and fighter aircraft from the Australian Air force were buzzing overhead, like angry gnats ahead of a summer storm. The nervous and expectant crowds lined every vantage point and cameras, both official and private clicked and whirred away – capturing and sending information at light speed around the globe. The ramp lowered and the crowds hushed as the men walked slowly and deliberately down and towards the awaiting media. Jim grinned again, exposing row after row of very tiny, but very sharp teeth…
As the last light of the day fades the city lights take over, and a different side of Melbourne appears.

Melbourne City after twilight from Princes Bridge. / Viewed from Southbank on the Yarra River 1.5hrs after sunset. Melbourne is a very pretty city at night with lots of memorable locations. / 30D, 24-70L,mirror lock-up+timer,24mm, 1/15th, f/11,iso100. I’d left my tripod at home so ended up balancing the camera and propping the lens with a Malteeses choclate box. made from two photo’s, one shot above and then another below to capture the view and also to boost detail for print.
Nice windy night i was surprised how this shot came out.

I just love the peaceful grace that the Yarra and the city of Melbourne has in the morning. Capital city of Victoria, Melbourne,Rowing sheds on the left, MCG in the middle.
this was a shot where i was trying to get the impact of the clouds from behind the ferris wheel that it would make the impact of the ferris wheel better with the strong contrast of the picture, enjoy
Pulled out of the archives from a while ago… A 3 exposure HDR in Photomatix software. This photo was taken with my old Canon 300D, I had a fair bit of trouble deciding what white balance to go with but I think it worked out ok. This image was taken on the same night as the following images: Click here for my other images of Melbourne
Lost balloons on the Yarra River on a rainy day in Melbourne.
Breeze is not something we often take into consideration when we’re using a camera. Light? Yes. Shadows? Yes. But breeze plays a large part in our consciousness if we’re shooting across bodies of water. In this case, the breeze was no lighter than the gentlest caress, which meant that the surface of the Yarra River here in Melbourne was almost still, with just the slightest ripples. Melbourne’s architecture has always fascinated me, long before I came here to live in this city. It’s a great combination of colonial-era buildings flanked by modern architecture – and this shot, I guess, is an interesting example of how the two styles co-exist. I shot this in 2007, just before sunrise, while standing on the pedestrian footbridge across the Yarra. The greenish tinge is the central dome above the station’s main entrance and is one of the city’s major landmarks. The broad golden band that stretches almost all the way across mid-frame (and its faithful reflection) is simply caused by the perimeter lights across the platform closest to the river. This was shot without a tripod. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my work in any way. What you see is exactly what I shoot. Shot with a Pentax K100D. F4.5, 0.3 sec, ISO 800, focal length 34mm. best viewed using the VIEW LARGER function / Canon EOS 400D (528 views 10-11-2009) / I am re-submitting this after getting a bubble mail from my good friend Vikram who suggested a tighter crop… I gave it a go and bam, it made a huge difference! Thanks Vik for the good advice and for being honest with your feedback :) /
