Reflections of the NGV portal entrance
B/W version of “One night in Melbourne”.
Viewed from Southbank on the Yarra River one hour after sunset. Melbourne is a very pretty city at night with lots of memorable locations. / 30D, 24-70L,mirror lock-up+timer,24mm, 1/15th, f/11,iso100. I’d left my tripod at home so ended up balancing the camera and propping the lens with a Malteeses choclate box.
Reflection of a building provides a distorted view of the world. The shape of the windows and the features on the facade of the reflected building help to exaggerate the distortion. / / Camera – Canon 350D / Lens – 24-85mm USM / Focal length – 60mm / Exposure – Apeture Priority / Aperture – f/8 / Shutter – 1/200 seconds / ISO – 400 / / © Andrew Brown Cards / Urban and Architecture / Panorama / Landscape / Portraiture / Macro /
This building facade is located in Port Melbourne, Victoria. What appeals to me about it is how the original alcoholic signage has been left, which I believe is for heritage reasons.
This is looking towards Flinders Street Station on the left and St Kilda Rd into Swanston Street over the bridge on the right. Without Bias, I think Melbourne is one of most beautiful cities to photograph in the world.

Yarra River, Melbourne.

View of Melbourne by night from Southbank. It was a mild winters night and we weren’t the only photographers out and about! Thanks for the Canon DSLR feature- Taken with Canon 40D, 17-85 mm lens at 17mm, tripod, remote shutter release, f4, 5 secs, 100 ISO. Great camera!
Evening shot at Elwood beach, looking over Port Phillip Bay towards Westgate Bridge (Melbourne, Australia). Scan from slide. Also in here: /
Pulled out of the archives from a while ago… A 3 exposure HDR in Photomatix software. This photo was taken with my old Canon 300D, I had a fair bit of trouble deciding what white balance to go with but I think it worked out ok. This image was taken on the same night as the following images: Click here for my other images of Melbourne
A black and white edit of the CBD from just outside the Melbourne Aquarium, wish it was a bit more still so the reflections came out a bit sharper but oh well! Taken with my old Canon 300D and converted to black and white in Lightroom 2.
Took this last night (17/7/09) of the Gateway Sculpture on Tullamarine Freeway, Melbourne. Love those strong geometric lines. I know, I know, I’ve posted a few of this lately, but I wanted to frame a really big one and didn’t think my 21 megapixel camera had enough resolution to do it justice so I waited for a windless night and went back. This baby is a four shot stitch giving me all the res I need for a mega print (enough for a large poster size and more) without the fisheye lens distortion although the perspective is still pretty extreme. Not sure if I like the clear or cloudy sky more, opinions welcome. Gateway Sculpture, Tullamarine Freeway, Melbourne, Australia.
