A vigil is kept by the still manned Point Lonsdale Lighthouse over the narrow entrance to Port Phillip Bay. The Rip, as it is known, is one of the most notorious entrances to any bay in the world. This lighthouse is one of the few left that is staffed 24 hours a day. The base has an signal and observation room for the control of shipping through the Heads. There are four cameras set up in the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse area. These cover views of The Rip, Queenscliff, the South Channel and Point Lonsdale / Barwon Heads. Storms and rain today, so last night’s sunset ran true to form. View from front balcony, with “Seagull’s Swimmingpool” (my story to the grandchildren) in the foreground.
This was taken using transparency film – 100iso – I think velvia. It’s one of many taken on one glorious night in Port Melbourne Australia 1993 starting at 12.00am and finishing at 6.00am. In those days I had no children and plenty of time and stamina on my hands.
Scan from slide film.
Port Melbourne Beach. HDR photograph taken with my Canon G9, using 3 exposures and Photomatix software.
Had a hard time getting a long exposure without the tripod getting blown around too much, taken from the end of the St Kilda Pier looking back towards the CBD of Melbourne just shortly after sunset. / Settings Canon 40D, 17-85mm IS, FL: 38mm 30 seconds @ f5.6, ISO 200 ND8 Grad Filter Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Lightroom 2 Click here for my other images of Melbourne
This sculpture caught my imagination, and I saw, in my mind’s eye, a spotlight illumination. Photoshop brought that to reality. / Photographed with a Panasonic DMC-ZR1.
