Luna Park’s scenic railway in Melbourne, this was taken for a project in 2002 / 2003 when I was doing a Camera and Image 8 week short course at Melbourne School of Art and Photography. Taken using my first manual film SLR camera, a Canon EOS 300, with transparency film, then scanned digitally and adjusted to suit.

A continuation of the ‘car park’ theme. This one was inspired by Enrico Bettesworth’s ‘Underworld’ and Andrew Brown’s ‘Underground’. My challenge was to interpret this site differently from those two artists. I hope I have been partially successful in achieving this.

Unfortunately this is one of the areas that was affected by “Black Saturday”, I am so hoping that this little pocket of Myrlte beech forest wasnt touched by the fires. There were fires in the Blue Range, Marysville National park. The Myrtle beech trees have been around since the Jurassic period. I stood in the river with my jeans rolled up to my knees, the water had slowed nearly to a stillness as it gathered around the rocks in the water that were covered with moss, as I hit the timer button on my camera in that 10 seconds I had time to reflect on the raw beauty of this ancient forest. The forest that stood before me was thousands of years old. It was summer out beyond these beautiful old trees it was a stinking hot day, the flies stuck to my body, I found relief in the river and under the ancient old tree. Under the ancient trees it was freezing, for some strange reason it was like the middle of winter under the trees and my feet and legs were numb from the icy water that I stood in. My “holy grail” – a stunning, fully restored, fully operation Philidelphia Toboggan Company carousel AND it’s right here in Melbourne !!! I’ve loved the PTC carousels from the very first horse I ever saw – they capture all the fiery energy of the horse (and other animals they create) and also fire the imagination of the riders with the range of fantastical steeds to choose from. If you live here, go see this stunning piece of art at Luna Park, St Kilda – go for a ride while you’re there :-D Luna Park, St Kilda foreshore – Heritage listed / Melbourne, Australia Featured: Carousel Enchantment (April 2009)
Photo taken at Coburg Lake in Melbourne as the sun started to rise, buildings behind are remnants of Pentridge Jail.
Model – Millie Claire / MUA – Cloe Bunter of Makeup by Cloe Pentacon Six TL + Kodak Portra 160VC / I won’t show the digital versions, seems to have caused a little friction on dA ;) Needless to say if you’re familiar with the original Snow White text, you might just know what this is about :D Melbourne’s Parklands have very photogenic footpaths. I believe this was shot in the Queen Vic Park… I dunno, it was hot and there were a LOT of parks. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas
Luna Park another St Kilda Icon. Had to turn up the colours a bit to animate further. This is about the only shot I go were my horrible children did not stick their head or hand in front of the camera at the last minute. Maybe they are trying to tell me something!
This Tram got in the way of a perfect night shot!
Imagine being born again. Only this time your mother is the earth and you come fully equipped with memories, knowledge and a belief system. What raw emotions are evoked when the first thing you are confronted with is an environment completely foreign to what you were expecting? / Fear, confusion, doubt and loneliness. / Or because of the new environment one may lose their inhibitions, feel joy or perhaps discover inner strength and courage. Maybe the nine images are a true metaphorical reflection of the artists soul? / His background and love for the stage and theatre. / His longing to find true love and a wanting audience. / The ongoing battle of time and money between industry and creative / fulfilment. / Born from this earth, the series, everyone deserves a new beginning, a chance to start over. / / Part of a series that will be exhibited during Art Melbourne April 09 at The Royal Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne. / / A huge squishy hug goes out to Jess who had the patience and willingness to be involved in this shoot!
