  • Pulpit Creek – Megalong Valley was shot in Raw in the early afternoon using a tripod-mounted Canon EOS 10D with EF 70-300mm DO IS lens at 70mm, ISO 100, 4 seconds at f22. Megalong Valley is part of the Blue Mountains National Park and lies below Katoomba and Leura. Pulpit Creek meanders down to Cox’s River beside the escarpment and this little waterfall is one of scores along its rainforest and fern-infested length. Nature is severe, however, and it bears the scars of massive gum trees falling from above after loosing their rootholds to the wind and rain and obliterating the “closed” nature of the environment. Best viewed large ______ ______ See also Pulpit Creek, which was shot on the same day at the same place but with a different lens and settings: Both images are included in the Waterfalls Of The Blue Mountains 2009 Calendar, available now:

  • This image accompanies the previous one and was taken at an unknown spot on the road from Blackheath to the Megalong Valley in the Blue Mountains National Park of NSW Australia. I would like to identify this spot however I do plan to return soon for more images and to take the walk further. /

  • Inspiration is sometimes hard to find so when I met John through another friend here at RB little did I know the muse was ready to kick my tail feathers and get me creating again! (grin) ... I took a look at John’s website and WOW .. do take a look .. definitely worth your time (smile) ... well anyone who’s been watching my work probably knows by now that I have a passion for patterns in math and art for a long time (in fact since I was a kid (grin)) ... so when I say John’s work inspired me I did not mean I wanted to copy how he does his work .. oh no … when I saw his work besides the intrinsic beauty of his images I could see patterns forming in my mind’s eye …. John graciously allowed me to use his website image (up front and center on his home page) Megalong Valley Campfires, Triptych to torture and mutate into this image …ok ok it was after doing it and showing it to him that he saw no problem with claiming it as my own since it bore no resemblance to his work .. (grin) .. I had offered to add info about his work/site etc. since he was my inspiration and the original was his (smile) ... so here it is …. I may at a future time add a mini-story for this image … just uninspired tonight since I only had four hours sleep last night .. yup playing away and lost track of time (grin) .. if I do perhaps I’ll also put it in a journal entry so all interested will know I did (big smile) Featured Art – June 2009 – RedBubble Group – Art in Math Extensive work done in Gimp and PaintShopPro. • BEST VIEWED LARGERT This shot was taken on the secenic tourist drive in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area at sunset, it was created from 4 bracketed images using a Nikon D300 fitted with a Nikon 18-200mm. No filters were used. THe Blue Mountains are located 2 hours west of Sydney by road, also by train for visitors to Sydney, there are also organised day trips via motor coach that will take you to the area for the day…. though if you have the time spend a few days in the area. You can see all the attractions, have a devonshire tea in one of the many teahouses, or sit on the edge of the valley that seems to go on forever, and listen to the birdlife. Bushwalkin g is a must !
