Yes, I’m doing it again (must be some sort of compulsion disorder). After this one we’re going to do an overnighter so come along and meet people first. I’m excited already. / Tessalated Coast by Peter Martin Ok, so here’s my suggestion (feel free to ignore it) Last year I went to a wedding in Lorne on the Great Ocean Road and saw how well they accommodated a larger group. Seeing as how there are a few RedBubblers who live over that way who missed out on our Melbourne Meet Ups, I thought it might be nice to go visit. Great Ocean Road Cottages in Lorne is not only wonderfully cheap, (works out to about $50 per head or they have a backpackers on site if your want cheaper) but the people who run it are lovely and very helpful. You can make use of the electric kitchens to self cater or go to the cafes and pubs down the road. The cottages are a 2 minute walk from an IGA or 10 minute walk to the nearest pub. (Yes, they have Red Wine) / Erskine Falls Reborn by Michael Eyssens The accommodation is a series of small cottages with a queen bed downstairs and 2-3 single beds upstairs. I’d suggest that we organise ourselves into small groups of 3-5 and book a cottage for each group as they are put together. The cottages are all close enough together that it does not matter which one you are in however they are holding a few close together for us until I get back to them in a couple of days. Staying in Lorne will put us within a short drive of the otways and several lovely looking great ocean road sites if we want artistic inspiration. The cottages, while designed to sleep 4-5, are suitable to entertain a group of people and say, sprawl out a game of twister or something. I’ve called them to ensure that they have enough room for us on the night of Sat October 27th and all is good. My thinking is that we could head over early Saturday, spend a day doing bush things and a day doing beach things. What do you think? P.S – Sorry Jess for ambushing this idea!! / Lorne Pier,Victoria by Joe Mortelliti

The first time I met people off the internet, it was …
The first time I met people off the internet, it was 20 bubblers at some pub I’d never been to, and I was supposedly the organsier- I was a nervous wreck! Meeting complete and utter strangers off the internet isn’t always easy, even for the most social butterflies, and even if you feel like you know them pretty well from online. So think about how best to comfort people and make them realise that not everyone on the internet is a scary monster… - meet in a public place where there are passers by / - consider a daytime meet / - ensure any activities include people / - invite attendees to bring a friend or partner along for moral support / - be clear about how to identify each other at the meet up point / - have a way for attendees to contact you/someone on the day / - touch base with attendees prior to the day so they know you really do exist and that it will be going ahead. Inviting People / Well I can tell you how not to invite people- with a vague open ended forum post like “anyone in suchandsuchatown want to meet up one weekend?” This results in three pages of umming and arring and trying to work out details. What you need to do is give it some thought and present a cohesive idea along with the message that you are flexible to other people’s ideas. / Here is an example of how I first suggested a group of us drive 3 hours out of melbourne for a night in Lorne. I suggest having the following details in your invitation post: - A date and time to meet / - A specific meet up location (somewhere well known is best) / - A suggested activity for the day/evening / - How you will identify each other / - How you will contact attendees should there be a change of plans / - How attendees should contact you/someone else should they be late etc. / - Advise people on what they should bring- lunch money, camera etc. Once you have written and posted your invitation in all the right places, (such as a relevant group) people will start to respond. Some will jump in with a big YES!, others will express disappointment at living at the other side of the world, others will ask you to change the date, some will ask you to change other details. When negotiating details, remember that more changes, the more confusing it gets. So don’t feel like you need to bend to every person who can’t make a certain date, or whatever. Some people will miss out – they can come to the next one! / Lorne 07 – RB Melb Group Shot by whoalse A few days before Let attendees know that it is in fact going ahead, confirm the details and get yourself orgainsed. If you have promised them red balloons to mark the meet up point- buy them. If you need to wash your picnic rug, do it. Just trust me on this. You will be nervous on the day itself and are more likely to forget things. Some of my suggestions for the day before are: - charge you camera batteries / - print off a list of people who are coming and any mobile numbers you have for them / - double check any reservations you have and confirm numbers / - Charge your mobile phone and ensure you have enough credit to make several calls / - If you are doing the popular red balloon thing, bring string to tie them to something / - Pack a map, even if you know the area well. It makes giving directions to others easier. / - If there is a reservation, make sure attendees know what name it is under Once you are all packed, leave everything you are taking at the front door or in a pile somewhere like that. On the Day This is the bit where people call you to cancel, rock up late, get lost, and never arrive for reasons you will never find out. - Have your mobile phone on Loud. Boy I have learned this the hard way several times over! / - Be the first person to the meetup point / - Decide how long you are prepared to hang around waiting for latecomers / - Watch out for people arriving / - Introduce yourself with a smile and if your real name is different to your username, introduce yourself with both names. / - Introduce people to each other as they arrive Then you all go off and have a bunch of fun!!! The rest takes care of itself, trust me :) Oh yeah, almost forget… the absolute most important bit of all / post all the photos in a journal post on redbubble so we can all see :)
This painting is actually pretty darn huge, and it’s hanging in my living room. My wife hates it and often refers to it as the “throw up painting.” It’s a bit of an experimentation for me (the kind of work I really don’t do all too often.) I don’t hate it. Even if my wife thinks it’s a “throw up painting.” More people seem to agree with her more than me on its merits, but screw em’...I painted it, I like it… If you’ve got a problem with that, why don’t we step outside and settle our difference with out FISTS!?

Halls Gap is a small town located in the Grampians National Park. Besides being stunning to look at, you have wineries, bushwalking, relaxing with a good book, adventure sports and more right at your finger tips. Being a small town, all the various accommodation is quite close so it doesn’t matter where you choose to stay. Plus there is a great lolly shop there. For those who laugh at the thought of relaxing, a weekend away with other creative people could bring endless opportunities to create, collaborate and be inspired by the amazing scenery. Photographer, painters, models, illustrators, writers… There is something to inspire every creative soul. So, enough of my sales pitch… How about we all go to Halls Gap March 6th – 9th? March is far enough away that you can’t possibly have plans yet, the weather will still be nice and It’s probably someone’s birthday so we can eat cake. In terms of organising it. Probably best we keep it all in one spot Images in this post are used courtesy of lightsmith

“May the road rise up to meet you. / May the wind be always at your back. / May the sun shine warm upon your face; / the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, / may God hold you in the palm of His hand.” traditional gaelic blessing Of course with the luck of the Irish, this could be a double whammy :)
I like this concept and feel there is more here to exploit, not too sure if I’ve found it yet, but as a “work in progress” here is IB2 :)

This is a Muscari armeniacum is commonly known as a Grape Hyacinth. I always shoot flowers “in the field”, in the actual setting where they are found, as I did with this beautiful flower. However, I usually use only the natural light that is available, but the gorgeous plant just wasn’t showing up right in my images. I decided to go home and get my Macro “Ring Lite” strobe to see if I could get better results. This is what I got. This photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D with a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec at f/4.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Canon MR-14 Macro Ring Lite flash was mounted on the lens in Auto Mode #3. Your comments are always welcome! Hi everyone, Now that spring has finally sprung down here on the little island, I am thinking of putting together an outing to the Tarkine Rainforest up near Meunna way. Normally a guided two and a half hour walk through the gorgeous rainforest surrounding the Tarkine Wilderness Lodge plus a delicious barbecue (or home cooked meal if the weather isn’t perfect) costs $55 per person. However our gracious host, Maree Jenkins, who has taken yours truly on the same walk many times with my camera understands that time works differently for us photographers. So she has kindly agreed to extend this to a half day walk at no extra cost. The walk is suitable for all levels of fitness, although there are some uppy/downy bits :) I’m thinking we should organise this for some time in the next 4 to 6 weeks on either a Saturday or Sunday. For those that may want to stay the night, accomodation will be available at The Lodge, or alternatively Meunna is halfway between Burnie and Stanley for alternative accommodation. Edit: I forgot to mention that there is plenty of holiday accommodation in the most gorgeous place on the planet too. That would be my little coastal village of Sisters Beach ;) If you think this sounds like something you might be interested in, either register your interest here, or send me a bubblemail. We would need at least five to ten people before we start looking at making any concrete plans. Just to get your shutter finger excited, below are some images I have taken over several walks through this area ;) And just for giggles… if you are very lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the extremely rare and elusive Canon Wombat with her baby on her back. Apparently she is a one of a kind ;)
