Mixed Medium on canvas… approx A3 in size. Hi everyone, I did this, this afternoon, it took me an hour, exploring with mixed medium. Inspired by Billylee and her print making… so incorporated some printing, water colour, collage and inks… Probably something I should varnish… but if it’s framed behind glass not sure if I’ll risk it. Have no idea what it should be titled so maybe you can help me … I have been part of RB since mid October and never had a work on the featured pages… could this be it? Looking forward to your comments and feedback, I know it’s not my usual style, but / hopefully someone out there likes it!

June 2007 I’m on a roll with mixed mediums! This one is a mix of calico, hessian, shellac, paints, string… I have tried to capture the essence and textures of Africa… It smells like Africa funny enough, could be attributed to the sage burning at the time of creation. Look out for the symbols… Table Mountain, Tribal Patterns, The bushveld, animals and animal totems. x Carmen

As some of you know I am having a bit of a pre new-year overhall today. I found this among some of my work. I thought I would share it. It’s very rare, because I only did about 3 artworks between 1997 and 2006 (LOL – seriously)! This work was done in mixed medium and happened when a friend suggested I try get back into creating artwork, so here it is! Needless to say I am very grateful to my friend who got me back into my passion! Thanks Shaun.

Inspired by the textures of luxury and oppulance this painting has been created using mediums ranging from acrylic, glue, inks, gold leaf, shellac, pastel and layers of various papers. Please view the large version of this painting if you have the time, I believe it shows the details and textures much better. I will be very interested in your comments as this painting presented many hurdles during the process, some mediums just don’t like working together! Pastel is not traditionally varnished, but I have defied tradition! For developement of the painting you can view my journal entry where I have uploaded a few pictures of this work in progress. Now that it is complete I will upload a few more of the stages of developement for those interested, yes BillyLee – I am thinking of you : ) Thanks for viewing and leaving your comments. Carmen : )

Lance is my own creation. I have some of his story fleshed out but not all of it. / He’s one of those kind of guys that succeed in most everything he sets out to do. In college he discovered that he had a talent for writing songs, and so took up the guitar. He and a group of friends produced a CD. One of their songs hit the charts and the money rolled in. Being the kind of guy he is he wanted to give back to the community. After college, Lance made some wise investments and played the stock market then bought an apartment complex for needy families. He opened a non profit establishment which helps the needy, ex druggies, and those in abuseive lives get the help they need and jobs to start a new life. He’s a all around good guy who’s kick boxing hobby had earned him many first prize matches, yet he does not believe in violence. / Well sooner or latter every one has to take their lumps, and Lance is no exception. After 5 years of marage to his high school sweetheart, and one 2 year old later. tragedy struck. It couldn’t be something simple, it had to be complicated. His wife and child are killed by a drunk driver. And it doesn’t end there, at their funeral Lance discovers something he wished he had never been born to hear. His faithful wife was not so faithful. / As he walked to the grave sited, he sees another man standing in sorrow. Lance’s kind natured heart goes out to what he thought was a friend of her’s he had yet to meet. But he soon discovers the man is not only her lover, but the real father of her child. She NEVER told the man she was married. Will the humanitarian be able to over come the rage now stirring inside him? Only time will tell. ..enter the heart of the woodland ..where all sorts of real and imaginary creatures live.. come with me on a voyage of discovery….with this enchanting poem sweet Sally Omar .. wrote for this painting…................................................. / “In the heart of the forest / much to my delight / when i tiptoed there / late one night / i saw them dancing / the faeries one by one / laughing and hugging / having so much fun / a yellow unicorn / came by my side / and a beautiful faerie / told me to go for a ride / we rode through the forest / and a leprechaun was there / all dressed in green / with locks of red hair / the trees were swaying / as everyone gathered / love to this community / was all that mattered / it was magic to see / the forest this way / lit up with magic / and faeries’ play / in the heart of the forest / ...by Sally Omar…..................I painted this of the Langley woods Norfolk UK & used a sponge for the undercoat then touched up the trees with a brush then added pastels…my first watercolour/pastel painting experiment on Ingres paper was inspired by the poem ” Woodstock have a passion for all things ‘Tree’ ..Save the TREES ...featured in ‘Creative poetry challenges’& Lifeline’ ....

Woodie Woodpecker lives in the enchanted forest and taps away all day on the tree bark….taptap! taptap!..what a wondrous sound echoing through the forest….......and who knows for how much longer we will hear him tapping away they are becoming rarer by the minute like all our woodland birds…..A First experimental mixed media fun painting,watercolor and pastel on Ingres paper Woodpecker song ......’SAVE THE BIRDZ’ RSPB .....featured in ‘works on paper’+‘country bumpkin’ groups…...

We added this conservatory to our home four years ago and what a gift it has been! Rain or shine, we can so fully appreciate the beauty God has given us in the surrounding cathedral of towering fir trees, and, in the warmer months, the radiant colors of the garden flowers. A mixed media on canvas that unfolded over a period of 12 months and recently came together as this, rather unusual piece of work that incorporates a variety of mediums including collage, acrylic, gesso, sand, inks and guache… pretty much anything that I wanted. I guess the theme remained one of experimentation and my attitude stayed playful and open to where the painting wanted to lead me. Most of my work, particularly my abstracts, are intuitive, there is no prior thought process or decision on what I want to create and I let the work take me on a path rather than me moulding it from the early stages. Perhaps this is why this painting unfolded as a game, and on a slightly more deeper level, is about the games we play and the gambles we take in our lives. Please follow me ... oh, and one last point of interest. Some of you have already commented or favourited the previous versions of this painting, guess it goes to show how much our work can change in a short space of time. I painted this over the past two days. Size, 30×40” or 101.6×76.2cm. / Predominantly an acrylic on canvas. Over the recent weeks I am enjoying painting more than ever, I think its because I have finally let go of the outcome and instead enjoy the process more.
