Here the gentle flow of the waters as they cascade over the face of the rock. Feel the cool mist as it envelopes your whole being. See the softness of the silky veil as it flows over the harsh rock. Let these waters calm you. Let them carry all your stress away as they journey on their way. Release the tension built up in you as the water releases itself over the face of the cliff. Let the hand of nature touch and relax you. Now before I run to play, / Let me not forget to pray / To God who kept me through the night / And waked me with the morning light. / Help me, Lord, to love thee more / Than I ever loved before; / In my work and in my play / Be thou with me through the day. / Amen
This brick path overshadowed by oaks leads to a statue of the Blessed Virgin holding the Child Jesus. It is one of many such tranquil spots where people who come for directed spiritual retreats in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, can sit, soak in the small town charm, and meditate on the ways of the Lord.
I’ve recently been reading up on Buddhism and find it very interesting. Just had a flash of creativity and thought about taking a photo of my buddha statue against the cream roses. I think the both work in harmony of each other… taken with my Pentax K100D….
Fractal Manipulation Om (Oṃ) / Like many mantras, this one begins with “Om”. Om has no meaning, and its origins are lost in the mists of time. Om is considered to be the primeval sound, the sound of the universe, the sound from which all other sounds are formed. / In the Brahminical tradition, from where Buddhism undoubtedly obtained mantra practice, Om is not just the universal sound, but the sound of the universe itself. For example in the (non-Buddhist) Mandukya Upanishad, it is said: / Om! — This syllable is this whole world. / Its further explanation is: – / The past, the present, the future — everything is just the word Om. / And whatever else that transcends threefold time — that, too, is just the word Om. / Om is therefore a sound symbolizing reality. It represents everything in the universe, past, present, and future. It even represents everything that is outside of those three times. It therefore represents both the mundane world of time in which the mind normally functions, and the world as perceived by the mind that is awakened and that experiences the world timelessly. It represents both enlightenment and non-enlightenment. please continue reading here: Wildmind Buddhist Meditation http://www.wildmind.org/mantras/figures/shanti
This image is taken from a collection of work titled ‘Journey into the Pure Lands’. These images were taken in the winter of 2003 during a four week trek through the Nepal Himalayas Everest region. We climbed as far as Gokyo, reaching 5500m above sea level. I undertook this journey for a number of reasons. That year had been difficult and had involved loss, at this point in my life I felt that I had nothing to lose but to take up the challenge of trekking a mountain in Nepal. I had always dreamed of doing this, not only for the landscape, but also so I could draw near to the heart of Tibetan Buddhism, something that has influenced my life for a long time. I was not sure what I wanted to find, maybe a challenge to revitalize my life, or to give myself time and space to find some clarity. What I did find was one hell of a challenge! The struggles caused by temperatures dropping as low as -15 and the impact of high altitude really helped me put into perspective some of the emotional adversity I had experienced. The richness and mysticism was a photographers dream, but most of all I was inspired by the peace, humour and great strength I found amongst the Tibetan and Nepalese people despite the adversity they had faced. There was a sense of space and clarity, not just in the landscape, but also amongst many of whom we met. At the end of a hard days trekking the clouds would gather beneath us forming a white blanket almost real enough to walk on. I could describe it as nothing less than the pure lands depicted within Buddhist imagery.

an image that was ‘shown’ to me during meditation. This time I drew a quick sketch straight after the meditation and then slept on it…came up with the idea for the background while sleeping and then got up and painted it… / /

Little bird with sanskrit symbol.
Climbing hills and seeking the top, I stop to ponder the sky, the space between my brain, the clouds, the feeling that floats in and out and pulls like huge magnets. The edge is now only in my imagination. Once it was real. Standing at cliffs’ edges, overlooking darkness and doom. Now the edge is a piece of paper I draw the folds and flies away into dawn’s shadows. Memory is clawing at the door. I ignore, or try to. I open windows to let in the now. I see there is really no cliff. For I can walk on air and swim through the wind. Yet, at times it’s fun to stand at the edge and look back and forth. As long as I remember I’m not stuck.
