  • Work exhibited in the Visual Arts Association Group Exhibition ‘Four Seasons’, held Cairns Regional Gallery, Qld. / The exhibition theme was inspired by the Vivaldi’s music ‘The Four Seasons’. Mixed media – archival black ink, acrylic, collage – paper painted, mono & screen-printed, drawing, photo; screen-printed cotton fabric, carpet material; on canvas. Background: I had been working individually on art compositions relative to my passion to interpret music, rhythm, movement and energy through the use of formal visual art elements ie. line, colour, tone, shape, texture and art media. The interpretation of any music requires one’s senses to hear and feel, absorb sound and energies, to internalize and contemplate, as apposed to recording information seen/perceived through the eyes from the physical ‘outer’ world. One has to create and interpret a visionary abstract, from a pure transitional and spiritual sensual state, from one’s own internal environment, the knowledge, understanding and experience one brings to canvas for the moments of manifestation. I jumped at the chance when this exhibition theme came up. Also I am much inspired by Kandinsky and his work, a long time favourite art philosopher and mentor. ....................................... /

  • [portrait taken in Natural Light] : 16/11/2008 [AS IS] I was walking from one village to the next, in Remote Nigeria. one of the team noticed this young girl following us for some time. I stopped and spoke to her through an interpretor. We learned that she was 13 years old and caring for three younger Sisters. As she told us here story, I Felt compelled to return to her village. There we met her three younger sisters in the most extreme poverty. Both Parents were dead and no other living relatives. We spoke to the village Chief and the elders who pleaded with us to help the family. We did, as God lead us to and blessed her with clothing, and the following day we sent two of our field workers to meet with her and now they have a small regular income from our mission funds. UPDATE 5-8-2009. Mary is now at School. We pay her school fees adn her three younger sisters are well and happy. We need help with Susan, aged 9. She wants to go to school also. We need help with school fees, uniform adn text books. Can you help? will you Help? • Yesterday i went outside / With my momma’s mason jar / Caught a lovely butterfly / When I woke up today / Looked in on my fairy pet / She had withered all away / No more sighing in her breast I’m sorry for what I did / I did what my body told me to / I didn’t mean to do you harm / Everytime I pin down what I think I want it slips away / The goal slips away. Smell you on my hand for days / I can’t wash away your scent / If I’m a dog then you’re a bitch / I guess you’re as real as me / Maybe I can live with that / Maybe I need fantasy / Life of chasing butterfly I’m sorry for what I did / I did what my body told me to / I didn’t mean to do you harm / Everytime I pin down what I think I want it slips away / The ghost slips away. I told you I would return / When the robin makes his nest / But I ain’t never coming back / I’m sorry / I’m sorry / I’m sorry Some weezie nerd lyrics for post inspiration…... guess the band to win huge err… kudos…

  • Part of the Ophelia series. / Model is Missy / Makeup and Hair by Loran Bean / Assistant – Adam / Photography and Post by myself Comments are very appreciated. please leave one! I thought I might say a little bit about how we got these Ophelia shots. Missy is a VERY talented photographer friend of mine (to view her work, go http://missyjanek.deviantart.com/) and she has also modeled for me in the past. I thought she’d be great for this concept, so we started about 3pm yesterday. All was going well until she got in the pool and said “I don’t know how to swim!” So we struggled and propped her up with pool noodles and floaties and Adam even held her legs while she tried to stay afloat. I felt like she really was going to drown a couple of times! (We kept her in the shallow end, of course! and my dog was keeping watch as life guard.) For someone who had not really been in water before, I think she did a great job. :)

  • 348 views as of 1-5-10. This is a mixed media piece; watercolor painting on Strathmore 140 lb. cold press paper; enhanced and altered digitally. The original painting as well as this altered image are/were inspired by growing up in an area rich in wildlife. Most of my childhood was spent outdoors exploring what Mother Nature has to offer. Those days inspire just about everything I do in art and writing. Emotions rushed through me as I finished this piece and I kinda got a little teary! Let’s just say it moved me. You see, I was about to trash the watercolor! It was an experiment in watercolor techniques….just playing around while learning. I didn’t really expect it to be anything more. This morning while clearing out some stuff in the studio I happened upon it, setting there in a stack of the same sort of experimental paintings and this little voice nagged at me to do something MORE with it…....and so this is the result. :) VIEW IT LARGE! This art work has been FEATURED in “The Dreaming Tree” group! :) Close-up cropped sections of this work to showcase detail: Favorited 30 times as of 12-19-09!
