Sunset over the Pilbara.
Perth zoo visit to the lions. This beautiful male was catching some shut eye on his rock in the sun. Must have had a big night – I know the feeling well.
Two rainbow lorikeets having a bath in a small waterfall.
I saw this wonderful wall in Fremantle, it just screamed at me to try and capture it.
Trying to get the sunset was impossible with the weather so I tried to capture the weather instead. The following image was created by my friend Dennis Klau at the same time that mine was taken. I think it is amazing that people can see the same image in such different ways. /
Taken from under the Fortescue River road bridge, this photo is facing downstream into the setting sun. I am hoping that the bridge provides an interesting frame.
Another photo from my early morning visit to the hills, only a short walk from my front door.
I saw these steel roof joists and loved the pattern. Not only are they shaped but the building had a curve in it too, as an old building with it’s rust and decay, it still had a flow.
This fishing boat was sitting on the shore waiting for repairs. The beach was in lovely Langkawi, a small group of islands in Malaysia where the resorts are stunning and the booze is all tax free so we took advantage and bought quite a few bottles while there.
Penang butterfly farm. Shot 2. / / / /
I used a couple of layers to create this little image. Hope you like it, I tried to make it simple and subtle. Stock photo from Ash Sivils /
The amazing Pilbarra in the North West of Western Australia.
Perth Zoo – July Otter Otters are small fish eating mammals. They are found in Europe, North America, Asia, North Africa and a giant otter found in parts of South America. The giant otters are becoming rare as they are hunted by poachers, habitat loss and the toxic affect of some of the chemicals used by the mining industry. / In Europe they are affected by pesticides and are frequently hit by cars. The sea otter was nearly hunted to extinction in the early 1900’s for the quality of the fur, they are now that uncommon, there are not enough of them left in the wild to be profitable any more. / The otter is a very active and playful animal. The sea otter lives on the sea but other otters hunt and play in the water but spend most of their time on the land to prevent becoming waterlogged. / / /
No two boab trees are the same, they are remarkable trees that can live to 1500 years and older, this makes them the oldest living things in Australia and one of the oldest living trees in the world. / The boab only reaches about 15 meters high but it’s massive trunk can exceed 20 meters. The boab is an extremely slow growing tree and it takes hundreds of years to grow to these impressive sizes. / The boab is deciduous and almost all of it is edible from the seeds to the roots, it is however protected and therefore you must purchase only commercially grown produce. / The boab can only be found in the Kimberly region of Western Australia. / /
This sunset was the very first of 2008. Taken from our front verandah, this was one of the most spectacular sunsets I had ever seen. This photo is slightly cropped along the bottom, but is compleately untouched. I think all of Perth will remember this sunset (if they weren’t too hungover from the night before), the sky was brilliant. /
This photo was taken in the carpark of a truckstop in Willare, on the road between Broome and Derby. I was happy with the shot but it was ordinary. I had seen pieces by Paul Vanzella and thought that the finish he gave to his pieces The Kindness of Strangers India 2 and Monumental Carpark was just what this piece needed. After a short email to Paul, I was given an immediate answer and a finished photo later that same day. Thankyou Paul, I appreciate the time you took with this.
I packed a thermos, phoned a friend and spent a beautiful spring day at Araluen Botanical Gardens in Roleystone. Every year thousands of tulip bulbs are planted and each year the show of flowers is brilliant. These are the best shots of the days, I hope you like them.

This image had another smaller tulip in the background which distracted from the image so I removed it by cloning it out.
As the wind blew, the grass slowly danced in it’s breeze. 100 kilometers from Broome by the roadside.
This photo was taken by my daughter for the Kelmscott Show photographic competition. We had a vase of flowers in the kitchen and my camera set up with the macro lens and with some guidance she captured this. I thinks she might be a natural, she is 10.
This photo was taken at my Dad’s yard, it is full of all sorts of stuff.
