  • Chilli with in her Easter outfit with her Easter basket.

  • I saw this pile of asphalt and rock, and thought it would make an interesting photo. As to the title, I loved the song and it just seemed to fit.

  • When I was using Robert W. Service’s poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee” with my students, I decided to put one of the scenes on the Etch-a-Sketch. I’m sure you would have done the same thing, right? Is there anyone out there who knows about this story in verse? Here’s the part that I tried to illustrate. The setting is the Yukon Territory, in northern Canada. Then I made a hike, for I didn’t like / To hear him sizzle so; / And the heavens scowled, and the huskies howled, / And the wind began to blow. / It was icy cold, but the hot sweat rolled / Down my cheeks, and I don’t know why; / And the greasy smoke in an inky cloak / Went streaking down the sky.

  • I woke up one morning to catch the sunrise at Convict Lake and on my return trip to my campsite I decided to venture down McGee Canyon. It was still fairly early in the morning and I was exploring the area when this pack train wandered by, presumably on their way to bring supplies to some people in the upper areas of the canyon. The mountains of McGee Canyon are composed of metamorphic rock. On the left is Mount Baldwin and on the right is Mount Aggie.

  • I was watching a particularly grotesque horror film last night, called ‘Inside’ and the main character was such a frowny face even before she was being attacked by some crazy woman that wanted her unborn child. So I started doodling while I watched it. This is the result. It’s not a direct likeness of the girl, but it’s similar. In case you can’t tell, I love fringes.

  • This is a subpeak of Mount Morgan I guess, it’s unnamed. I was driving down a dirt road that leads into the canyon and the early morning shadows on this mountain just drew me in. I got out and took quite a few photos trying to capture it best. I think B&W works well with such a contrasty scene.

  • Didn’t enjoy drawing this, and it didn’t scan too well either…not happy Jan !!

  • This was shot during a brief fuel stop in the tiny hamlet of Moose Creek in the Yukon last year. This poppy in a little window garden was a bold splash of colour, despite the autumn frost. A few metres to my left was a huge sign proclaiming: “Moose Creek, population two great guys and gals and a friendly dog.” The sight of a poppy always reminds me of my father, who would wear a poppy in his buttonhole each year on Armistice Day. I do not crop, edit or enhance my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a standard Sigma 18-125mm lens. F 5.6, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, focal length 125mm. Featured in ODD ONE OUT, August 2009. Canada08-MooseCreek-7887

  • Early morning doodle. Now I am hungry for peanut butter.

  • Trying a new style – I am in a painting frenzy – very little time to do anything else – thinking of you all.

  • Charcoal Portrait

  • A boat, beneath a sunny sky / Lingering onward dreamily / In an evening of July— Children three that nestle near, / Eager eye and willing ear / Pleased a simple tale to hear— Long has paled that sunny sky: / Echoes fade and memories die: / Autumn frosts have slain July. Still she haunts me, phantomwise / Alice moving under skies / Never seen by waking eyes. Children yet, the tale to hear, / Eager eye and willing ear, / Lovingly shall nestle near. In a Wonderland they lie, / Dreaming as the days go by, / Dreaming as the summers die: Ever drifting down the stream - / Lingering in the golden gleam - / Life what is it but a dream? - Lewis Carroll. This is another cosplay shoot with my friend Ella.
