The labyrinth was a maze created by the brilliant engineer Daedalus for King Minos to hold prisoners from ever escaping. The Minotaur resided deep within it’s depths, later to be slain by the hero Theseus. Of course Daedalus himself later became a captive to his own creation. Since even he could not find a way to escape from his own construction, he devised wings of wax and feathers and string, and, along with his son, Icharus, flew from the confines of the labyrinth. Icharus, not heeding his father’s warning, flew on too high toward the sun, causing the wax in his wings to melt; and he fell to the earth, and his death. / The labyrinth has been observed in many cultures to be a metaphor of the depths of the human psyche. From the ideas of old Greece to medieval cathedrals to the modern ideas of the psychoanylist Carl Jung, the labyrinthean depths of our own minds may very well be of the very highest construction and capability, as well as our greatest obstacle toward true enlightenment and freedom. / Original work was created using watercolor and gouache media on Arches cold-press 180lb. cotton rag.

You think your life is odd… You have 4 seemingly stable dimentions / to go about your shopping in… Based on sketches for a Childrens (+ adult childrens) book I am working on. Created from many pen doodles on reverse side of junk recycled band pamphlets (Snow Patrol – YAWN) from my old job… scanned in and some good old photoshopin’ Enjoy trying to find all the little secrets, enjoy watching your friends scratch there academic heads at this one… Makes M C Escher look like an accountant :P Peace skateboard? /

I had started with a pencil drawing on paper then transferred it to aceate. Painted acetate and then Ink jet printed on to coloured paper. I then melted embossing powder for the Southern Cross ( a constellation only found in Australia!) and the moon. It is a night scene in one of my favourite settings – a formal garden with a hedge maze! Prints of this will available at my February 2009 Solo art show. (see my journal for details).

Here’s an old image taken during our last road trip to Moab last spring. We absolutely love this area and wish we could go more often but it’s a fair ways away therefore I keep these images as great memories. While in Arches National Park, you can hike out of this longer hike where you are in the desert and approach the rock formations via the backside and once you are in, it’s like a maze, you just got to make sure you follow the trail marker and don’t get lost or else you might spend a few hours backtracking which happened the first time out there. Thank you to our good old trail maps. Anyhow, here you go, here’s a taste of what’s to come once you are in there. / Cheers / Canon Xt, Sigma 17 to 35mm lens and better viewed full screen / Shot as is.
