  • Hills Hoist
    by alexkess

    US$5.70–US$152.00

This is another shot that I took on the 5th of May as part of the 24 hours of flickr. It is the shot of Australias own (or better my own, since it is in my backyard) Hills Hoist that was prominently featured at the 200 Olympics Opening Ceremony. / And now I have to learn that it was not even an Australian Invention: Taken from Wikipedia: / “The Hills Hoist is an Australian version of the rotary clothes line, the distinguishing feature of which is a crown and pinion winding mechanism invented by Adelaide based Lance Hill in 1945. This allows this clothesline to be lowered and raised. The rotary clothes line itself had been invented as early as 1855, diagrams of which were published in Scientific American that year. This style of clothes line was popularised in Australia by Lance Hill and is a common sight in Australian and New Zealand backyards. It is considered one of Australia’s most recognisable icons, and is used frequently by artists as a metaphor for suburbia in Australia. For many post-war baby boomers it is a symbol of their childhood and an Australian national icon. / It is widely (and incorrectly) believed by the public to be an Australian invention. However, other Australian and American precursors existed decades before it was produced in 1945 in the Adelaide suburb of Glenunga by Lance Hill.” Please also visit my website alexkess.com and my photoblog . • What Dreams May Come.....

This is my ” Dream Home” and has been for a rather long while now. It sits right across the street from my friends house, so I see it often. Some find this home scary looking, but I find it intriguing….very much so.

I’ve posted this over at the forums but I thought it was important to post here as well. The following chart was made to help take the guess work out of how your t-shirt design colours will look after Red Bubble’s colour conversion. I simply took a CMYK swatch palette from Photoshop and put it on a t-shirt in Redbubble. As a result, all the colours were converted. Update- I’ve now added coordinates so you can easily find the relating colours between each swatch set. -In the first block of swatches is an extensive range of CMYK colours which you can use while in RGB or CMYK mode to colour your designs. On the bottom is how these colours will be converted on RB’s shirt design preview. For a larger version of the colour guide you can go here (copy and paste in your browser)- http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/1130/tshirtcolourguidenewwl6.jpg Hope this helps everyone.

  • is where I want to be, she may be…

  • Someone once told Incognita that silence was the speech of angels. She immediately resolved to take up bagpipes, drums and violin. BTW More than half the world’s 6,000 languages will be gone by the end of the century . >

  • May Lake
    by Mar Silva

    US$3.99–US$106.40

Yosemite National Park Distance: 2.5 miles (4 km) round trip to May Lake; 6 miles (9.6 km) if you climb Mt. Hoffman as well Elevation at trailhead: 8,800 feet (2,640 meters) / May Lake Elevation: 9,270 feet (2,825 meters) / Mt. Hoffman Elevation: 10,845 feet (3,305 meters) / Elevation Gain: 500 feet (150 meters) to May Lake; 2,000 feet (600 meters) to Mt. Hoffman Hiking Time: 1.5 – 4 hours May Lake reflection / Why hike to May Lake? To see the only lake that, we can say with some certainty, got a geologist some action. George Hoffman, a member of the 1863-67 Whitney Geological Survey, named the lake after Lucy Mayotta Browne. In what was surely a related matter, Browne married Hoffman in 1870. And is it just a coincidence that May Lake nestles in the lap of 10,845-foot Mt. Hoffman? Not likely. Mr. Hoffman appears to have been a man with a direct and pointed imagination. Best Time to Visit: Whenever the Tioga Pass Road is open – typically June through October; see our Road Conditions page for the road’s historical opening and closing dates Scenery Factor: Like so many of Yosemite’s high lakes, May Lake rests at the base of striking granite cliffs (Mt. Hoffman, in this case), giving it a memorably picturesque backdrop. Unlike other lakes, though, May Lake’s low side gives way not to forest, but to a dropoff that looks over the Tioga Road area all the way to Clouds Rest and Tenaya Lake, a bonus that makes this one of Yosemite’s most scenic lake hikes. Getting There: From Yosemite Valley, take highway 120 ten miles (16.8 km) to the Crane Flat turnoff onto Tioga Road, then take Tioga Road 28 miles (44.8 km) east to the May Lake turnoff. From Yosemite’s east entrance at Tioga Pass, take the Tioga Road west 20 miles (32 km) to the turnoff. From the turnoff, it’s 1.8 miles (2.9 km) to the trailhead parking lot.

There are times when I ask people if I can use their images for my art work. How it works for me and the person I am collaborating with is that once I have finished my work with their image I email it back to them in high res and ask them to post it on RedBubbe for 50% mark up as well as I do the same, so that myself or the other person own the art equally and we both have a chance to make a profit of the finished piece. If you were someone who is willing to let me use any of your images , feel free to comment here and let me know.

  • I don’t usually do IR shots with people or animals, but this horse was kind enough to stay still for me for 2 seconds. ......................................................................................................... Bored in a stable with nothing to do. / We make a game of throwing our shoes. / Lead me to water, but not to the track. / Show me a saddle and I’ll say, “Hey get off my back.” / All in favor (all in favor) say “Nay!” / We like the flavor of (we like the flavor of) hay. / We’re gonna graze all of our days. / Until they take us away and turn us into glue. / Like Mr. Ed always said… May the horse be with you. May the horse be with you. / May the Horse be with you everyday. / I trot by the fillies (they like me of course). / They all dig my band (yea I’m a rocking horse). / You gotta take off your spurs to ride me you know. / If you want me to stop then yell out “Whoa”. / All in favor (all in favor) say “Nay!” / We like the flavor of (we like the flavor of) ha / ..............................
