A roadside stop and a beautiful and very typical view (I mean that Mayo is loaded with such scenes) of a lake where there is a fish farm. These old trees come in very handy in the foreground!
It was a beautiful crisp cold day in County Mayo on Irelands west coast not to far from the bustling town of Westport when we stopped our mad dash tour out to Achill Island. Where I stood to take this shot there was a house beside me but the next one that I could see was this small bungalow in the distance with the kitchen fire obviously burning peat which was the smell that hung on the air ever so lightly.
A wider shot of the coast of Irelands Achill Island facing the brunt of the Atlantic Oceans continual and almost eternal pounding. Go left and the next stop is Canada. Angle a bit south and you should hit New York City.

A bótharín near Bunahowna, Mulranny, Co. Mayo, Ireland. / The scene put me in mind of: An Irish Blessing _May the road rise to meet you, / May the wind be always at your back. / May the sun shine warm upon your face, / The rains fall soft upon your fields. / And until we meet again, / May God hold you in the palm of his hand. May God be with you and bless you: / May you see your children’s children. / May you be poor in misfortune, / Rich in blessings. / May you know nothing but happiness / From this day forward. May the road rise to meet you / May the wind be always at your back / May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home / And may the hand of a friend always be near. May green be the grass you walk on, / May blue be the skies above you, / May pure be the joys that surround you, / May true be the hearts that love you._
The Murray River, Coorong & Lower Lakes in South Australia have suffered terribly from drought and are in desparate need of fresh water. These 2 images of the Murray were taken at Mannum. The top image was taken in 2006 and shows 2 dead trees in the water, the whole area was full of birdlife at the time. In the bottom image taken in 2008, you can just pick out those 2 dead trees in the centre, in the cracked brown dry earth. Fiestas are always a lot of fun and filled with loud music and loads of colors. In 2000 my husband and I threw a huge Mexican Fiesta even though we live on the East Coast in the USA. These are two of the hats and materials that were used during it.
/ ©MCN:CKXW3-4LWDB-E987E Murrisk / in Mayo in the West of Ireland The village of Murrisk has a quite outstanding location – between the shores of Clew Bay and the majestic mountain of Croagh Patrick, known locally as ‘The Reek’. The root of the village’s name is uncertain, it comes either from ‘Muir Riasc’ which translates as ‘a marsh by the sea’ or the more romantic “Muir Iasc’, the sea monster worshipped in pagan times. Overlooking the sea is the dramatic National Famine Monument, an outstanding John Behan sculpture depicting a skeleton strung ‘coffin ship’. from Mayo on the Move

In Cong, co. Mayo, Ireland sit the old ruins of Cong Abbey founded first in the 7th century, and refounded in 1135 after destruction. One of the remains is this little fishing cottage, built above the Cong River, that allowed the monks to sit inside, next to the fireplace, while fishing through a trapdoor
The ruin of Shrule Castle, Shrule, co. Mayo, Ireland is a fortification built by the Norman deBurgo family in 1258, and dominates the view of the village as approached from the Galway side. At the moment it is for sale, as is Shrule house, which is standing right beside the castle. PP: Contrast levels and texture added
Again a shot of Ashford Castle. / I seem to be a huge fan of it, but then again, it is so very gorgeous out there. I probably will bother you all with loads of pictures of the property, until you are totally fed up!! So here we have the tower. Flag in top, so the master is home ;-) PP: I could have bothered with perspective, but I didn’t want to, as it would ruin the sky, which was awesome this afternoon. So I left in the wide-angle distortion / Tonemapped in Photomatix
Yesterday was a wonderful day, crisp and frosty, and the sunset was glorious as well. I went to Lough Corrib to catch the sun going down. It was a brilliant moment that I was able to capture. / I love swans!! / And I love Irish Sunsets! No post processing other then warming the colours a bit more.
