  • Since our dawn, man has always looked to the stars to make sense of the chaos that we create. And to me, it only seems fitting that our future should lie beyond our own planet, if we don’t mess it all up first. The main tone underlying this work is that we should look at our history in order to understand our future – and I’ve used the Mayans as a reference to the good and bad things that we have achieved. I’d like to think that this being dominating the artwork could very well be us, in our own creation of what we believe as interstellar beings. Kind of like life imitating art. The dome of his head is actually Mars, a planet many have speculated that could be an older version of our own Earth and a glimpse into our future. Behind the his head, and also tattooed on his brow, is part of the very advanced Mayan long-count calendar, which runs out on the 22nd December 2012 – a date that many historians are looking forward to, especially given today’s fragile climate. Some speculate that it could mark an approximate date to the end of life as we know it. Which ties in with other totally unrelated theories about our oil crisis, global warming, and so on. / In his eyes, he sees a horizon of fire which symbolizes the earth cleansing itself, although we’d see it as mass destruction. This is synonomous with our understanding of the Mayan civilization and how it overpopulated and crumbled under the high demand of such an over-indulgent society. The moon shots are from the recent lunar eclipse. I included this because the moon plays such an important part in our life, and the stabalisation of the planet – it moves away from the Earth at just under 4cm each year. Finally, I’ve used the Mayan Chichen Itza temple at the bottom of the piece as a stairway to the heavens, common with Mayan, Egyptian, and other beliefs.

  • Digital version of this stencil. The coat of arms depicts a Mexican golden eagle, perched upon a cactus, devouring a snake. The coat of arms of Mexico was inspired by an Aztec legend regarding the founding of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs, then a nomadic tribe, were wandering throughout Mexico in search of a divine sign that would indicate the precise spot upon which they were to build their capital. Their god Huitzilopochtli had commanded them to find an eagle devouring a snake, perched atop a cactus that grew on a rock submerged in a lake. After two hundred years of wandering, they found the promised sign on a small island in the swampy Lake Texcoco. It was there they founded their new capital, Tenochtitlan.

  • The remaining ruins at Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, are a tribute to the complexity and advancement of the Maya empire. The grounds hold multiple ruins that are now considered the 7th wonder of the world. Truly worth the trip to this area, these ruins are an experience of a life time.

  • 18×24 watercolor enhanced colored pencil. Commission / This lovely little girl was born in Akron Zoo and spent the first 8 months of her life being raised by humans. The Zoo’s vet took her home and they bonded. But as with any animals born in a zoo, she had to be moved to a new home and, after almost 2 years, he still misses her. So, he had this done for both his wife and himself. She is a beautiful little girl, isn’t she.. Completed 2007

  • Oil on canvas 40” X 40”. Completed 1999. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” / – Albert Einstein It is so amazing how some paintings come into being and the effect they have on the unsuspecting viewer. In 1997 I was painting with a group of like-minded artists for an upcoming exhibition. One of the artists was a beautiful soul by the name of Greg Grace. Greg was a good friend of mine whose work I greatly admired. One day Greg was showing me some of his latest drawings and when I saw a sketch of the Gateway, I was blown away. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, affecting me very deeply. I wanted to take it home to look at, every day. So I came up with a great solution, I would paint it! I approached Greg with the idea and much to my surprise he agreed. Greg liked the way I painted and felt that my style of painting would very much suit and enhance the powerful energy emanating from the mandala. He gave me the original drawing from which I worked. I absolutely loved painting the mandala. Painting the mandala in the dot style is the most effective and energetically powerful way of transmitting the essence of Gateway. The energy was so powerful at times that I could not work on the painting for more that a couple of hours a day. The original drawing was only of the mandala; I added the cosmic background because that’s where the gateway existed. When I look at the mandala in a meditative way I go through it to other dimensions. Intuitively, I sense that the Gateway exists within the middle star of the belt of Orion, and is the primary star-gate to multi- dimensional levels and universes. Every one of my friends who came to look at Gateway had a unique experience.

  • Oil on canvas 67” X 40”. Completed 1998. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “In every atom, there are worlds within worlds” / – Yoga Vasishtha The Awakening resulted from a series of intense dreams and visions I had experienced over a six-month period in which much of the painting was revealed. The rest unfolded in the process of painting it. Out of all the paintings I’ve done so far, The Awakening is the most dear to me because so many extraordinary events took place while I was painting it. For instance, a little way into the work I had a clear vision of a group of Aboriginal men appear in my home who stared at me for a long time before showing me some cave drawings. They then instructed me to include the cave stories in my painting (brown panel at centre left). In another incident, I was painting a pink starfish (top right hand corner) when I was overcome by Ammachi’s (the hugging saint) divine energy and went into a state of bliss. One day I connected with the dolphins during a meditation, and was shown that when humanity becomes enlightened their work would be done and they could finally go home. They are missing their home very much they said. / The Awakening is like a blueprint that represents the awakening of humanity, the merging and honouring of various beliefs, religions and cultures. It reminds us that we are all a part of the one spirit (oneness), having beautiful and unique experiences on our way home to ourselves. The Rainbow Serpent has awoken from the dream and is now manifesting the dream. As a result, the land and water creatures have taken physical form. / The hands represent spirit reaching out to mankind in love and compassion. They are guiding us. Shortly after finishing The Awakening I included it in a Sacred Art exhibition, along with The Dream, which featured six local artists. The Awakening was completed over a period of 12 months. It is the second of a series starting with The Dream and culminating in the Buddha Within.

  • Oil on canvas 40” X 40”. Completed 1995. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “I saw the angel in the marble and I carved until I set him free” / – Michelangelo The Dream was the first painting that I had completed from a vision. Painting The Dream was a very interesting process for me. I was concerned how others would react to a non-Aboriginal person using a style normally synonymous with Aboriginal art, i.e. dot painting. For this reason, when it was completed, I was hesitant to show it to anyone for some years. In November 1999 I succumbed and included The Dream, along with The Awakening, in a Sacred Art exhibition that featured six local artists. The exhibition began with a special welcoming ceremony performed by the Aboriginal Elders of the region. Afterwards, the Aboriginal Elders approached me and asked questions about my visions and paintings. They said they liked my work. I was so happy and relieved to hear that. Local dignitaries, including the Governor of South Australia, Sir Erik Neal, attended the public opening. To my surprise Sir Erik Neal invited me to display The Dream at Government House (his official residence) for six months to which I agreed. After the exhibition, The Dream featured in the main boardroom of Government House to be viewed by visitors from all over the world. The story of The Dream is about the creation of our universe. The snake (Rainbow Serpent) represents the Creator. The centre shows the creation of our universe, with the hands representing the creation of spirits in all dimensions and the eggs, the creation of life. The greens and browns represent land and all things that live on the land. The shades of blue and purple represent water and all creatures that live in water. The branches and red berries represent nourishment and sustenance. / At this stage in the story, Creation is not complete; hence the black (unfilled) background at two corners. The Rainbow Serpent has entered a sleep state and has begun dreaming our future. The Dream is the first of a series showing the transition of the universe from Creation to enlightenment. The next of the series is The Awakening.

  • Maya – a semi-candid portrait. I was in a in a line, waiting to pick up a drink – crowded – extremely – at an indoor stadium. Noticed this beautiful baby. I had my 70-200mm on at the time but managed to get off a few shots. They came out nice, so I went up and showed the mother (and lost my place in line). She was very pleased, so I asked her if I could take one more. • Oil on canvas 24” X 24”. Completed April 2008. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “All living beings have the Buddha nature and can become Buddhas” / – Buddha Buddha Within illustrates the story of personal awakening. My understanding of the personal awakening process is that when undergoing the final awakening stage, the kundalini (rainbow serpent) becomes an intense fire (red/orange beside the tree trunk) shooting through the spine engulfing the body. The energy (green vortexes) required is enormous. As the kundalini reaches the crown chakra, it fully opens and all earthly limitations drop away. This being is no longer tied to a religion or faith but now embraces them all as represented by the sacred symbols in the tree. The consciousness now resides in the higher self and is one with the universe and all that is. When the transformation is complete sonic waves (the four vertical crystalline waves) travel out into the universe to let all of creation know of the grace that has taken place. All life is naturally drawn to the radiant and divine being that has become pure Buddha consciousness (centre). At each of the chakra points on the Buddha is a Swarovsky crystal in the relevant chakra colour. Crystal magnifies the properties of the chakra energy. / Buddha Within is divided into four quadrants (earth, fire, water, air) and the five elements including precious metals (bottom corners). The red veins dividing the quadrants represent the lower dimension (inner earth). The higher dimension is represented by the white equilateral triangle. If you look closely, you can see the texture of the underlying branches in the tree. These were meticulous painted before adding the covering of leaves. The tree must be complete in the physical, in order to emit the complete energy of the life form. Imbibed in the painting is sand from a sand mandala created by Gyuto Monks. They had spent a week painstakingly building an exquisite sand mandala. Upon its completion the mandala was ceremonially deconstructed and the sand poured into the local river for healing, accompanied by prayer and the blasting of Tibetan ceremonial horns. Some of the sand is held back and distributed to those who attend the ceremony: it holds sacred healing properties. I used some of the sand from this mandala, mixing it in the purple paint used for the crown charka encircling the white triangle and Buddha. Buddha Within is the third in a series and preceded by The Dream and The Awakening.

  • 3d art render of a Jaguar prowling around in some old Maya Ruins. Made with bryce 3d.

  • This was in my sons head and is now in three dimensional reality – it is a play on words – My Own Son. The Aztec Mayan symbology is reflected in the mandala : The verdigris and gold pyramids symbolize the steps he will take in his life. / The eagles symbolize his connection with Great Spirit – his totem at birth was the Wedge Tailed Eagle. / The jaguar pawprints symbolize journeying, and the great wild velvet cat that purrs beneath his skin… / The compass points his directions in life – he will walk them all. / The symbols within are Mayan calendar symbols representing his birth time, birth date and other relevant information. / At the centre is the feathered serpent – Quetzlcoatl – twinned. The light and the dark, the good and the bad, life and death are intertwined in symbol. / Heavily jewelled (well, paste LOL) and gilt with gold – my gift to him as he was my gift to me.

  • Dragonfly sits upon a grass blade in a tranquil blue environment. This is a CGI, 3D work, produced using Maya and Photoshop. I put many hours into this work and the original framed print sold early on during opening night of SALA’s Wind group exhibition held at Burra Art gallery! / /

  • In India, our culture believes that there are many universes like ours as we see today, and each is governed by Lord Vishnu. There are as many Lord Vishnu as universes originated from the MAHAVISHNU representing the Brahmañ who is silently takes part in the divine play of creation – Lila. I spotted this water lily in my recent photo shoot. This time the rain had blessed me to make this theme happen :) The tiny water droplets make me recall multi verses and the enlightened water lily the Brahmañ here. • ‘the big hill View up the highest pyramid (138 feet) in Yucatan, Mexico called Nohoch Mul (‘large hill’). Built by the Mayan people over a thousand years ago (600-900AD) on a vast forested site at Coba, in its heyday the city covered over 80 sq km, housing over 50,000 people. Its crumbling deserted ruins lay overgrown in the forest for over a millenium and while knowledge of this expansive site was never completely lost, it only came to the attention of scholars in the 1920s… It was the building of the new tourist town of Cancun that led to some restoration and its opening as one of the most natural sites in the peninsula. It is one of the few pyramids you can still climb. (Its no longer permitted on the pyramid of Kulkulkan at Chichen Itza , voted online as one of the seven new wonders of the world). There were a series of ancient raised roadways called sacbe(ob) connecting Coba with other ceremonial sites in the peninsula Climbing it on your own first thing in the morning was an amazing feeling – rewarded by incredible (and giddying!) views across the jungle with another pyramid jutting up through the forest Coming down is much much harder and the rope can be a saviour and many white knuckles have gripped it for security during the steep descent (my own included!!). There were so many remains of huge interest including the old ball court where they played pelota for the highest stakes and getting on a bike helped us move between ruins in the wild forest (only a tiny proportion excavated) with amazing bird and wild life. It was leaving our first visit at dusk the night before that we saw the fascinating coatimundi rootling around on one of the many unexcavated heaps of rocks from one fallen building, now reclaimed by the forest… A must – see if ever you are in mexico …. oooh and be careful of the crocs in the lake too!.... / :)))) Nikon D60; Nikkor 18-200 lens;UV filter;f/5.6;1/125 sec;ISO-100;fl 18mm

  • 2009. Age 22 This. took. hours… Drawn on smooth bristol board. My first attempt of “Maya” was complete in Feburary 2009, however I was not happy with the finished piece so decided to get back to the drawing board… literally. I poured everything into this effort so I really hope it shows. There’s a lot of detail that can’t be seen unless zoomed in – for example each ear has multiple layers of hair strands, each one casting their own shadow. I really tried to push myself with this picture and I am happy with the finished result. I hope you like it too :-)

She has been altered quite a lot digitally as I was not happy with the actual original painting, I’ve taken this back to give this a vintage look. My little niece Maya is so beautiful, half Indonesian as is my other niece Indiana…gorgeous children both. After I finished this, it reminded me a bit of Maya, hence the title.
