“Praying for Rain” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © “As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. / The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. / A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. / Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. / The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old / hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land.” / ~ Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School Praying for Rain was featured in the: Redbubble Homepage – November 08

Hello, We’re looking to introduce a matted print to RedBubble in a couple of weeks time. The print area would be one size to start (max 10 by 15 inches) with an overall matte dimension of 17 by 23 inches. We’re aiming for the base price to be $25-$30. The matted print would be backed with thick card stock and would have a hanging device on the back of them (like mounted prints) so they can be directly hung on the wall. We’re also looking to introduce a ‘interchangeable frame’ that could be used to house the matted print – the theory is that it would be easy to swap a matted print in and out. The base price for the interchangeable frame is yet to be finalized but it’s likely to be $60-$80. The matt board and backing board will be acid free. The frame will be made of solid timber sustainably harvested in Australia (no rainforest timber). Mountain Ash for those who know their Australian timbers. So a few quick questions: 1. Is the matted print a product that you’d be interested in? / 2. Is the interchangeable frame something you’d be interested in? / 3. Do you want the want glass/perspex in the interchangeable frame (or nothing in front of the print)? / 4. Would you be happy to sell your art as a matted print? / 5. Do you want other sizes for matted prints? / 6. What other questions do we need to answer? Here are few images of the prototypes: - Peter

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932

“A Boab Sunrise” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © Sony a100 camera / Photoshop CS4 artwork The Australian Aboriginal legend of the Boab Tree (or Bottle Tree): “When the tree God created the Boab Tree it was to be the most beautiful of all trees in the universe, with the most beautiful flowers and bearing the juiciest fruit. But as the tree grew to maturity its flowers were mediocre and its fruit had a bad odour and tasted vile. The Tree God became so angry that he yanked the Boab out of the ground and slammed it back in the earth upside down and that is why today, when you see a Boab tree, it looks as if its roots are growing up in the air.” Thangool, Queensland A Boab Sunrise was featured in the: Trees group – Sept 09 Image Writing group – Sept 09 Queensland group – Sept 09 Inspired Art group – Oct 09

Butterflies…. soft, delicate & fragile, can break with the slightest touch. They flit through our lives without boundaries, or restriction. Winged creatures of joy & enlightenment. / Fences on the other hand are the very epitome of oppression. They enclose us, keep us in, prevent us from stretching our wings. They are hard, cold & lifeless, like the hearts of those who would oppress us. [multi image montage utilising multiple textures from my own stock]
