Matterhorn in clouds. View from Gornergrat.
taken early in the morning in the fresh clean air above Zermatt
The Matterhorn is such a beautiful, breathtaking mountain. Why? Simply because it’s standing all alone, it’s not a peak in some mountain range. It stands there watching over Zermatt. Strong, true, eternal. HDR made of 1 image
This image shows part of the “face” of the Matterhorn, right below the top. If you zoom in you can make out 3 climbers on the shoulder (where the snow is) one close to the top, one about in the middle and one shortly below that one (diagonally). Can you see them? =) I took that out of an “Air Zermatt”-helicopter, flown by one of those fearless pilots rescuing people out of the mountains. All too often they can only retrieve corpses. I uploaded it for the calendar, but I hope you like it, too. I love the texture of that rock, the brown part is a vertical drop a few hundred meters deep.
shot taken out of a helicopter flown by Air Zermatt. If you look at my image “on the way to the peak” it shows a part of that dark triangle which forms the so famous “face” of that mountain.
View of the Matterhorn from my hotel during my Christmas 2007 skiing holiday
The Matterhorn with cloud photographed from the Swiss side of the mountain.
One of the most famous mountains in Switzerland … majestic, beautiful.
The original of this image, showing the Matterhorn from the Zermatt side, was taken by my elder son Jonathan on a recent skiing holiday. I have cropped it, adjusted the levels, contrast, and saturation, and applied a little sharpening. I finally converted it to black and white using an infra red effect
Canon EOS Rebel XT / f/7.1, 1/1250, ISO 100, Lens: 70-300 / No postprocessing Majestic, unique… a mountain that invites to contemplate, to study it, to picture it … Zermatt has become my second “home village”. Only as an adult and since I am living in Canada, I am discovering some of the beauties of Switzerland. Challenge Win in: / 60+ Group
