  • A Watercolor and Pencil Portrait Ilustration. On June 23, 2008, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo left mastectomy the following day. The whole thing came like a whirlwind, but me and my family stayed grounded. I only have praise for the way my husband and 2 small boys coped with the situation. I stayed at the hospital for five days, and a CT Scan made done 3 days ago, showing no further abnormalities. I still have to meet with my oncologist and surgeon to see whether further treatment is necessary. I made this illustration to put in symbol how i feel after having only one breast left. A book that was lent to me speak of women whose self-esteem/self-image plummetted down to zero, etc. I do not resonate with such experience. For me, i remain totally woman. Probably, even more so. I see my breast cancer and surgery as just a small detail in the bigger picture of God’s working in my life. I was never afraid, yes, not a tinge worried nor afraid. I know God is in control. I surrender to Him. And He showed me how He orchestrated to perfection every little necessary detail. Glory to Him! The head is tilted to one side – a gesture of active listening (discernment). / The eyes are wide open. I remember someone telling me that in icons, open and wide eyes mean full awareness. (God has given me the awareness that something deeper and spiritual is being done to me as i go through the breast cancer experience.) / Pink dress – my favorite color. A color representing ‘feminine/woman’. / Arms meeting in front. A gesture of calmness, confidence, surrender, embracing God’s will.

  • A pink ribbon for Breast Cancer Awareness and an Artist Trading Card further highlighting the issue.

  • Being a Man

I wanted to become a man to escape the persecution of being a woman and to stop having my nipples and vagina be the only interesting thin…

I wrote this after an ugly and painful break-up. He wasn’t really an SS officer, it only felt like it.
